Charging to play games online is one thing (ala PSO etc), but for downloading emulated games they will charge you for sure... for one thing if it was free then there are a lot of people who wouldn't buy as many actual new Revolution games because half their time would be spent on the free stuff, and Nintendo won't want that. Sure, most of us will still go out and get the new games, but there are many who like to freeload as much as possible, we all know that only too well from the emulation scene. If Nintendo DO actually make this downloadable content free then I'm sure it will be fairly limited and there won't exactly be absolutely masses of games to pick from. I must admit I haven't been keeping up with what exact content they will have though...
Anyway, this is the same reason you never see games given away free with magazines or newspapers anymore (VERY rarely anyway). Years ago you used to get a coverdisc or tape with tons of free games, but a while ago most magazine publishers signed up to a so called "gentlemans agreement" to not provide free full games (only demos), so as not to hurt the industries sales. It might not be fair, but that's the way it is and has been for a long time... and I'm sure the same thing will apply to people downloading NES/SNES/N64 games. Besides, where there is an opportunity to make money, they will take it.
By the way, although Nintendo may never charge people for playing their own first party games online, that won't apply to third party games. Sega already charge a monthly fee to play Phantasy Star Online for the Gamecube, so there is nothing to stop them from doing it with any Revolution games they might bring out.

Nintendo i love you, but your probably the most annoying company ever when it comes to releasing totally unnesessary bullshit and charging an arm and a leg for it. They will certianly charge for it. I'm actually extremely disapointed with the whole E3 revolution presentation. Nintendo must know about the emulation going on over the net. On top of that pretty much if your a nintendo fan at this day and age you've most likely played the hell out of all the old shit anways. And it's the size of 3 dvd cases... so fucking what? It's not the size of the console that counts [rant]All they showed new was samus looking almost exactly like she did in metroid prime. (which imo Metroid games don't play right in 3d anyways) I really don't see the point of a new nintendo console already. With the style of nintendo's games they don't even use the system they already have to its full potential as it is imo. Bah... I think the Revolution will be the nintendo system that forces me to finally give up on nintendo[/rant]

It seems like the Nintendo staff has been playing too much Mario games, hitting into the mushrooms. I thought the ps3 controller looked weird, and now I get a load of this. With some of the expansions, it might give a unique FPS experience, but in the end... I think I'll stick with the Gamecube controllers for most games. I'm not that revolutionary.

So, pretty much just as i've foreseen nintendo is on a mission to come out with a more horrible controller with functions for only a few supported games every new console. I can't even imagine how bad the next one will be.

That controller is nuts, but then, I guess that's why Nintendo call it a Revolution!
I'm getting a bit bored with games in their current state, with only Virtua Fighter 5 and the rumoured Street Fighter 4 to keep me interested, so I was interested to see if Nintendo would come up with something different ... but this is absolutely nuts! I still dunno if the (TV remote) controller is a good or bad idea, I'm going to wait and see how games utilize it first.

That controller is gonna be cool for RPGs though.
