My heart actually hurts from that, why can we only ever do tthings the hard way in cup games? Sure it's exciting as hell, but it is not good for my health! Let's hope Stevie G can do the same for England this summer eh? If I was Sven I'd be using Gerrard in the Rooney role, he can play there. I would say use Joe Cole, but I think he'd be better staying out on the left. Guess this is a topic for another thread though eh... will probably be opening a worlp cup thread if anyone is interested in discussing the build up to it and the actual tournament? Thanks for the nice words anyway man, and congrats on winning the league for the second time running - hope you celebrated in style? ;D Back on topic I am now listening to loads of the new Chili's album... got it on my MP3 player and it's a nice way to wake myself up on the way to work! What makes you think hes playing? lol j/k. Yeah hope he can do the same. Not that England really have a chance without rooney...lets be honest here he was the only one who could score...who else is gonna do what he can and who else can he be replaced by? Crouch? lol hes alright but come on hes no rooney. Currently Listening to: Sunblock - First time (well video ), Chicane - Stoned in Love, Infernal - Paris to Berlin (video again oof)

Well this is off topic and as I say we'll open a proper thread for it, but... yeah there's no chance. By that I mean that there is no chance that we DON'T have a chance. Rooney is an awesome player but he is not the be all and end all of the England team. As usual the media have blown it out of all proportion, which is quite funny really - for months before that they'd all been telling us "this is the best England squad since we won the World Cup in 1966, we have some amazing talent", which I quite agree with... but if the media really believed that then why have they changed their tune so quick because of one injury?
Anyway, people don't seem to realise why Crouch is in the squad; he was never selected to lead the line or be a replacement of any kind of Owen or Rooney, he's in there to provide an alternative, to provide something that neither Owen or Rooney has. Even as a Liverpool fan (and a fan of Crouch's) I know he's not prolific, but he does a job when it comes to holding on to the ball and keeping the opposition away from it, unsettling defences with his size, and setting up chances for others (in his first England game he set up two goals I think it was in a hat trick for Owen)... many defences just don't know how to cope with him at all. If Sven does choose him as first choice striker if Owen doesn't make it, then it will be a bad idea, but playing him either alongside another more prolific striker or bringing him on as a tactical substitution later in a game will work wonders. Just a shame some people don't realise that...
Rooney isn't exactly an out and out goal scorer anyway, players like Owen are much more prolific than he will ever be, just Rooney has skill on the ball and vision that out and out goal scorers/poachers don't normally have, and he sets a lot of stuff up for others. Maybe the fact that Rooney is injured could work out well in a strange way. Gerrard can play the role Rooney plays and he's a better passer of the ball. If Sven does the smart thing and throws in a defensive midfielder in place of Rooney, that will allow Gerrard and Lampard the freedom to get forward which they don't always have for England (especially Stevie). You telling me Stevie and Lamps won't score goals when given the freedom go forward at will without having to worry about defending so much, and that if Owen is fit (which I think he will be), that he won't score goals with those two midfielders setting him up?
Just for the record, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard have 43 goals between them this season (23 for Stevie) - when was the last time two midfielders scored that many?

Yeah but this isnt the premieship...its World teams...Gerrard isnt gonna get the chance to have shots like against West Ham... The ability to score? lol. We do have a decent team. Gerrard is gonna be a major key player for England but like I said with playing world squads hes not gonna get much of a chance to score. We need him to setup the strikers and owens just not what he used to be now. Rooney was the key man for keeping us in it. Yeah the whole team is gonna play a big part...from conceiding goals but for us to win we need to score... Yeah man move my posts to another thread If you can do that i mean

Yeah but this isnt the premieship...its World teams...Gerrard isnt gonna get the chance to have shots like against West Ham... So you didn't see the screamer Stevie scored against Germany from a similar distance... or the ones Lampard has hammered in... or many others that England players have scored from that range? Obviously not been watching enough England games over the past few years... Premiership or not the quality of football isn't THAT much different, where do you think a high percentage of international players come from anyway? Of course, West Ham aren't a team full of internationals these days (although some of their players will be in the future I'm sure), but no matter how great a defense or midfield is, it can be ripped apart by world class players (of which Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole undoubtedly are, and for me they will be our main threats going forward). Anyways, if we are talking of world class rock solid defenses, let's look at Chelsea's shall we? Undone by a 30 yard blaster from Luis Garcia in the semi final of the FA Cup. Oh wait... Italian football has the best defences right? Juventus... awesome defense and the worlds most expensive keeper. Undone by an unstoppable 25 yard blaster from Luis Garcia in the quarter finals of the Champions League last season. Quality players make chances to shoot regardless, and just because you don't get the chance to score a spectacular volley from a distance, doesn't mean you won't get into the box to score... either way, a goal is a goal regardless of how it goes in. I dunno where "Owens not what he was" is coming from... it's not his fault he's been injured, but other than not being as fast as he was as a teen he's probably a better all round player and no-one can deny that his strike rate is still amongst the best. Hell, he was Real Madrids top scorer in his season there, despite rarely starting a game... oh and he did almost single handedly turn round that friendly against Argentina a few months back, was his goals that won that for us... aren't Argentina supposed to have a world class solid defense? Let's put it this way: despite being annoyed at how he left us to go to Real, if we had a chance to buy him back this summer, I'd rip Newcastle's hands off for him... Kaz ps will start the footy thread soon and move these posts...

Listening to an assortment of stuff for a change, just uploaded tons of random crap onto my ipod and I leave it on shuffle whenever I hit the gym or when I travel. Been listening to a fair bit of a Finnish band called Lullacry though - it's slightly cheesy pop rock type stuff, but it's kinda catchy. Imagine HIM but with a female singer, that's almost how it sounds. Oh, and, she's hot too I'd hit it... Kaz
