Mika Scaare aka HexElf reporting in. I just got myself a real Neo Geo (Japanese import AES) the other week after what must have been nearly ten years of putting it on my wish list. Finally I was able to afford one for myself as well as a game so I've been playing it most of the time during my holidays, mostly due to my PS2 breaking appart just in time according to Murphy's Law, but of course I want more games to add t this expensive hobby.
Been an SNK fanatic ever since I had the chance to play KOF94 waaay back but it really hit when KOF98 arrived in the form of an emulated rom on my computer a few years back. I quickly decided that this was the best fighting game series of all time and I've been playing KOF games in all forms and shapes ever since. For variation my first game was a copy of World Heroes 2 Jet, one of the most amusing series (next to KOF of course) in my opinion and while I sorely miss the throw button and super cool death matches this was the one I used to play at the arcades when I was younger. I still haven't pulled the amazing feat of my senior competitors from back then of beating the game on a single credit but I'm getting very close.
Currently I'm studying in my native home Sweden to become a proffessional journalist / writer (so far I only worked semi-proffessionally) but without my spellchecker I'm not sure how well I come off as an English major hehe... I'm interested in writing reviews for this site actually so that I can finally give something back to SNK. And for something completely irrelevant I also own two cats, Zaki and Saga.
Bye for now

Hi Mika!
Congratulations on the purchase of a Neo Geo. I too only got a neo geo (mvs) a few months back after many years of wanting one. I have only played the World Heroes games recently and found them very enjoyable. A pity that they don't seem to be very well known outside of the neo geo fanbase.
I hope your study in journalism is going very well.
From what I can see, your English is much better than mine! And I used to write press releases for a living ;D (and my typing still sucks!)
Welcome to the forums!

I think it's cool to get such a warm welcome already and I truly hope that I can contribute to the Neo Geo society and the fanbase in a productive manner. I just got Magician Lord (my first buy from NeoStore.com) today and holy christ that game looks fantastic considering it was released some 16 years ago; I hadn't even bought my first console yet! I remember I got a NES for my 8th birthday but it seems this game was already out then ^ ^; Feel free to jump in if my calculations are all wrong here, it just seems a bit unreal hahaha.
Anyway it gave me even more reason to pick up a memory card which I am hopefully going to be able to pick up next week along with an additional controller when I get my money.
Also I'd like to thank phry specifically for your kind comments (love that animation man) and make double sure I pass my upcoming English tests. As for World Heroes do make sure you give Ryoko a go, she's a very difficult character to play but damn she can really put the hurt on people amazingly fast! One of the extremly few grapple oriented women in the fighting game circuit.
So the only thing I'm missing now is a personal logo like the ones Debujin and fusion24 has but unfortunately I very much suck in the art department (all that talent was passed on to my sister who went on to art college) so I've never been able to get one.
Anyway, cheers everyone and remember that the saying "a game isn't just for christmas, it's for life!" holds doubly true for the Neo Geo. At least in my opinion!

Thank you ;D I own a modded AES system along with a phantom 1 converter. I have the mvs carts for rage of the dragons, kof 99 and blazing star. I also have the aes cart for samurai shodown 2. I got a cab recently but I'm unsure if I'll get a mvs board for it yet.

Ello. I play most of the neo stuff on dreamcast (well, when kaz sorts me out with the games).
I used to play alot of Metal Slug until I got rid of my xbox. Ive never owned an AES or MVS but ive played them a fair few times round kaz's house. I remember this time when he had just got Rage of the Dragons through the post (MVS) and we stuck it on and it kept freezing (doh).
Anyway welcome to the boards!

Hah yea I remember that, was a problem with ROTD being incompatible with the 1-slot I used to have, that was what made me go out and buy the 4-slot I had hex: sorry to be so late replying, but welcome to the forum and thanks for joining! Very sweet, I have copies of both SS1 and SS2 for AES shipping in sometime next week (I think it's too bad how they dropped Tam-Tam in SS2, he's jjust so awesome!) I'm curious on the Phantom converter, I saw one on EBay, does it like need installing and stuff or do you put it in like a cart perhaps? Also thanks everyone for the warm welcome, it's cool to see so many SNK heads in one place and again I think the AES is one of the best machines out there hehe, none of that front loading easily broken CD reader kind of stuff. Yes I've had the worst of luck with every disc based console I've ever own =P Also now that I've got Kazuya here on this topic I figured I'd express my desire to write some reviews once again, are there any criterias or stuff I should know?

The converter requires no installation. You simply put the mvs cart on the top end then insert the other end into the AES console. I would strongly recommend getting some type of protective cover for the adaptor though like a sawed off piece of an aes cart. Sometimes people sell those on ebay.
