Forgot to add this one, I should be ashamed really. The show may be cancelled, but it is still one of the best animated series ever... unfortunately it was always gonna be hard to escape from the shadow of The Simpsons

Just thought I'd post a couple of interesting tidbits I read: 1. They *might* be planning on releasing a couple of straight to DVD feature length movies! 2. The guy who played Fry is the same guy who did Stimpy's voice on Ren & Stimpy. Maybe it is common knowledge, but I honestly never knew that! Source: www.gotfuturama.com/Kaz

If we're exchanging Futurama quotes, then the following one must be stated
"Blackmail? I prefer the term extortion. The 'X' makes it sound cool" (Bender)
A classic indeed. I agree with Kazuya, I was lost in the Simpsons' shadow. Fox probably expected the 'rama to be a show of equal success commercially. A pity, since at its peak, Futurama was much funnier and more clever than the Simpsons.

I think the other problem is that Matt Groening had complete control over Futurama, whereas The Simpsons effectively belonged to Fox. Fox never really advertised Futurama enough either, but the most frustrating thing for me is the fact that just as it had started to gain momentum and lots of people were talking about it, Fox cancelled it. The possibility of some straight to DVD feature length movies is great, but I'd really like to see the show signed up for a proper series again. It happened with Family Guy, so you never know... Kaz

I agree. Perhaps Fox had something against the show for that reason. The show had never been blessed by scheduling in the UK as well as in the US. Maybe the cancellation was because Fox had enough episodes for syndication? We all know what Fox / Sky can be like for repeats!
I guess that many things just seem to do better on the home video market. If strong DVD / Video sales brought back Family Guy then let's hope the same happens for the proposed Futurama DTV movies. There seems to be some good buzz on gotfuturama.com
Anyway, kudos on the addition of cult TV onto your discussion boards. I hope you have many more visitors.

God yeah, Sky are terrible for repeats... I feel like I've seen every Simpsons episode ever about 300 times! Hopefully you are right about the DVD sales - I'm sure that any Futurama DVD stuff would sell very well (I wonder how well the current box sets have sold worldwide?)... sometimes people only appreciate what they have when it gets taken away, so the lack of Futurama for so long has in some way got people more interested in it. That is pretty much what happened with F.G. I think. Thanks for the compliments, I hope more people start checking this section out and use it as a regular place to chat about their fave shows. If anyone can encourage some friends etc to pop in here and chat that would be cool too Kaz
