Hello guys thought you might be intrested in this since it's a very good deal if you happen to live in the UK and have a 'The Works' shop near were you live. Here's the rub, there is a shop called 'The Works' that currently are selling 10 DVD box sets for £15 so thats £1.50 a DVD and these full DVD full of first episodes of that particular series box set and some of the DVD's are feature length movies. Now normaly the first DVD of each series on there own would normaly cost you anything from £5 to £10 in the shops or the internet so this is quite a bargin. Guess what though there are two Anime box sets that can be brought though 'The Works' which are differnt colours and they are RED and BLUE. We are not talking some sub standard titles here either, here are what's in both 'Box Sets' each having over 15 hours on anime!... ANIME 15 DVD BOX SET - BLUE (order online!) Ninja Scroll vol.1: Dragon Stone You're Under Arrest: The Complete OVA's Bubblegum Crisis Collection Vampire Princess Oh My Goodess! Urusei Yatsura - Remember my Love Urusei Yatsura - Only You Trigun Love Hina Ranma 1/2 (awesome!)
ANIME 15 DVD BOX SET - RED (order online!) Adventures of Mini Godess! Haibane Renmei Chobits Gungrave Serial Experiments Lain (effing awesome anime!) Tenchi Muyo Lunar Legand Tsukime Paranoia Agent R.O.D the TV Texhnolyze
Yeah anyway as you can see some pretty good stuff, all of which is good quailty (I.E all proper, no dodgey sound/images/DVD's etc) there so I would suggest going in to 'The Works' and picking up a boxset or two to exspand your Anime pallet so to speak but for the low price the box sets are selling for (£15 each) you can't go wrong really but be quick near were I live these are selling like hot cakes (a lot of Anime nuts were I work) and there were only a few boxes of each when I got there. Just thought I let you English guys know I going away now to play some blazing star and watch some Anime...

Hehe I wonder how 'authentic' those dvds are ;D I won't preach ethics on how to buy anime but boots rarely came out good for me. I like like my shit legal(kills my wallet though )

They must be legal if a High Street store is selling them dude. Seriously I think the plan is to get people in to Anime by dipping their toes in to all kinds of stuff so that they feel compelled to go out and buy the full priced episodes after the ones they just seen on the box set lol.

Hmm. Well that's a plausible idea but generally DVD's come with trailers for other anime's already. Not a bad idea but the fact that trailers come with so many titles these days it might not be necessary.

i don't think UK has as much anime DVD buyers as we have here in the US, so i guess such a strategy might have been necessary to attract buyers. those titles aren't exactly new anyway since the latest item in the list may have been released a couple of years ago.

Yeah they aren't new animes I knew that (I do have some Anime knowledge lol) but a lot of them are very nice Animies. MVM, the people who own the rights to publishing these titles in the UK also appear on the DVD's as well. Not sure if the company itself is either a subsidiary of MVS but I guessing they must of got there permission first because there logo appears before every DVD starting.
Just wacthed the Serial Experment Lain DVD again and it's all correct, hell it even has the special features that my friends DVD had. I will proberbly go out on buy the rest of the series when I get paid again on the 30th of December but was going to buy it before watching it again on the box set but I got sidetracked by buying my consolised MVS but saying that I do really like Lain but then again I also do really like the Dominon Tank Police series as well and I wish to buy them at some point to. Gotta watch some of the others at some point of heh...

the blue box looks sweet as the proverbial nut. as for the legitimacy of them, i think they are legit since those titles have been out for 10-15 years now, and have probably made a shit load of profits over that time. so i guess its quite likely that even if a boxset like this was a flop, in the context of all the money made over the years, the loss wouldn't be that much.

Oh btw just to let yo guys know I've purchased a legit copy of the entire series of 'Serial Experiment Lain' off ebay and should be arriving very soon. I was going to buy the series before when my friend lent me his orginal copy of the first DVD ages ago but got sidetracked by buying the Neo Geo MVS lol.
Seriously though we here in the UK get royaly ripped off when it comes to anime because the americans pay roughly around £15 to £20 or the whole series while if we were to buy the 'PAL' versions from stores like play.com or whatever it wil set you back £40 to £45 quid to obtain the entire series due to them not having the offical box set because it makes them less money!!
As you can prolly tell I brought the offical american box set since it's still offical but a lot cheaper on the pocket. I would like to support UK anime but not if it's going to cost me an extra £30 I won't...

****ing h*ll, that is impressive! I'll have a look on Monday!!!
In case anybody outside the UK is wondering, The Works is a discount store that usually sells books, but also a small range of (usually crap) CDs/DVDs/(occasionally) games for way below the recommended retail price. I usually pop in there every couple of weeks as shockingly good bargains can be unearthed if you're willing to trawl through all those crap reality TV "celebrity" biographies and Dummies Guides to Windows books, like Viz annuals reduced from £10.99 to £2.99 and stuff like that. I picked up Alex Garland's book Coma for £2.99 the other week, that's like a saving of over a tenner! Definately worth a snoop, and I've been meaning to pay closer attention to the DVD section of the store, as I remember they had a glut of anime stuff in a few years back as well.

Picked up both boxsets before going in to work this morning! I'm too tired to watch any of them properly tonight, but I've had a quick skim through a couple of the DVDs. Some are first episodes, some are OVAs: it's a real mixture! I'm pretty impressed with what's on there as a whole.
Note though: the DVDs seem to have been pressed on the cheap, as they have a bit of teething trouble getting into my PS2, and the disc labels are the same for each DVD, pretty plain with only the title of the show to tell you what's on it.
For £15 a pop for a bunch of shows I might have otherwise missed out on though, it was worth it.

Yeah I also read in the NEO magazine (readers letter section) that these ARE offical releases from MVM to try and get people in to Anime lol. As I said before for £1.50 a disc is all good baby!
