Although I don't spend quite as much as that, I do try to do my bit and buy the good stuff (provided they aren't taking the piss with prices like they frequently do here : . But anyway, yeah... anime is teh win ;D Kaz

No. I'm not that big of an anime fan really. I am very eccentric, and usually like things as long as they are unusual and interesting/cool. (hence I play neogeo while my friends play Xbox) I used to really like it, back in like '94 when it wasn't as mainstream. But now you can just go down to the bookstore and pick up some manga, its just not right! Thats kind of a stupid reason, but the truth is, I don't really have time for it either . I'm friends with a bunch of people that really REALLY love anime (especially since I'm taking Japanese...) and for some reason they all seem to be very poor {'cause they keep buying anime+manga } and very bad students {'cause of time spent with anime} -of course this does not reflect everyone who likes anime/manga, but this has been my exposure to people who do. Hence a further deterent... more reasons to follow maybe

HAI.
Dude, you've gotta like anime if you're in this forum. If only by association with SNK/NeoGeo/KOF. Plus, if you like cartoons, Far East is the only place to look. Animation in the West sucks a big one and is only getting worse. Based on the art alone, Western cartoons go stupidly simplistic, just plain weird, or CG. CG I can take, but I mean have you looked at the crap they run on the Cartoon Network nowadays (not adult swim). And as far as story, what the hell is happening to Western cartoons. what happened to the classic X-Men? That was a cartoon worth watching; they really kept a comic-book feel. But you look at the new x-men and it's trashy and unoriginal at best.
But anime keeps getting better and better. Last Exile innovates, blending CG and anime very well, for instance.
Anyway, that's my rant. Go anime.

Teen Titans for one tries to follow the anime formula far too much and ends up looking more like a shitty parody of anime then a serious show. Attempting to bring back old shows like Transformers and TMNT has failed here as well imo.

The new TMNT is somewhat ok... but it's definitely nothing compared to the old TMNT that i watch everytime during my childhood years . regarding transformers, "Beast Wars" sucks, Transformers rules i really miss that transforming sound they make that either resembles an electronic organ mix sound or some guy trying couch up some phlegm from his throat as for anime, i'm not a big fan nor do i hate it. i like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Fist of the North Star, GTO, Slam Dunk, Berserk, and Golden Boy, and that's pretty much all of the ones i watch

i like manga more, reading exercises the brain, especially if it's a foreign language but really, im more of a Manga person, (as you can see in my drawings), it's jsut more "colorful" (not literally!) has more attitude, adn is drawn VERY well, anime, i do watch, but not as much as i did, only select ones like Champloo, Miyazaki films, PMK, RK, etc... (anything with samurai!! haha), i love the classics too like Akira, AstroBoy, Cyborg009, Battle of the Planets, and to an off topic extent, I LOVE 70's-80's Live Action shows like ChoDenshi BioMan, Kamen Rider (the first one, never liked the offshoots), Gamera, and Gojira, etc..

The whole deal with manga is that they shove all the action that an anime would put into a "scene" that would be 15-30 seconds long, into a single frame. Plus those guys are expert *users of tone sheets ( )* as well. But with manga you miss out on the great music as in GITS, Cowboy Bebop, and Samurai Champloo. Plus, there's no voice acting and if you're into CG, usually mangas don't have that. At least not the ones that I've seen. And for those of us that can't read japanese, anime is pretty much the only option if you want a storyline. I mean, I've made some progress with katakana and hiragana, but I don't know much kanji at all. So in closing, if the art is all that matters, manga is the way to go. They can put all the effort that goes into animation and tweening into individual frames. It would be absurd to expect the quality of the drawings not to go up. Not to mention that manga is often on the forefront of new art/graphic styles.

well, im a traditionalist (if there is such a term), not taht i dont like NEW stuff, but i appreaciate the hard work people give in making manga's... and correction, they dont SHADE, they use tone sheets, which is VERY HARD to use (take it from me), anyways, the reason i like manga more, is you get to imagine... sort of... plus, in most cases, the manga's are more complete story wise (ruroni anyone?) so, i jsut wanna say I like manga more, that's jsut me -off topic- anyone know about Devilman??

I know what you mean about manga, or books for that matter. When you read manga you get to imagine for yourself what someones voice sounds like amongst other things, and if you are reading a book you read the author describe how someone and their surroundings look, and you kind of build up a picture in your head of how it is. However, when you watch a film based on a book, or anime based on a manga, you are seeing the directors vision of how it should look/sound. Nine times out of ten people rate the book/manga as better, and it's usually because their own personal vision of how it should be is not matched by the director. Know what I mean? Kaz ps: no idea about Devilman manga (if there is one?), but I have seen the anime many times... and I love it! ;D I remember saying on this forum before that not many people seem to remember it these days...
