Indeed. I would think that this is going to cause some boycotting but it doesn't matter because most will eventually give in and buy a PS3 anyways.

Read about this earlier. Damn shame even though I use play-asia instead of lik-sang. Too bad for the fuckers at sony though since this won't stop the distribution of psps anyway.

Damn, and I thought I could go a week with out having a new reason to hate sony. Just wishful thinking I suppose... yeah, but don't get too mad at sony, putting lik-sang out of business is something nintendo was also trying to do for a few years. (IIRC) of course the gba backup craze was a little different situation. perhaps a more legitimate fight.

A very well titled thread Kaz.
As a European gamer, it feels like Sony has treated us as third rate. The PSP was delayed here, by at least 3 months if I remember correctly (I think it was due Spring 2005 to be moved to September). When people want something they can't get they go elsewhere. In this case, they import. It's what the market is. The 6-month delay of the PS3 is just another example.
It is a dark day in the history of gaming when any one of it's leaders bullies companies in this way. It is trying to dictate when gamers can play games, which are available legally, and imposing such law suits is just wrong. Besides, if Sony was worried about imports, then why are games on UMD and Blu-Ray region free? One day it's Lik-Sang (who I understand has been used by many members of NGFL), the next it's another importer. Either way, it's attempting a prohibition of choice for the European gamer. You want to stop imports Sony - then stick to the universal worldwide launch principle that has worked for the movie industry, or what was going to happen to PS3 in the first place.
I do not know enough about import law as to whether Sony's legal action was justified but this action of determining which legal products can and can't be sold shows nothing but contempt to the consumer and retailers. Sony may think that they are celebrating a victory. All I can think is that Microsoft must be loving this.
Preventing the sale of a small proportion of consoles overall has earnt Sony even more negative publicity and insulted many of its consumers. This is a PR disaster for Sony, which is likely to be more damaging than PSP imports, particularly at this important time where they should be earning the respect of gamers.
What happened to you Sony? You used to be cool.

What happened to you Sony? You used to be cool. Absolutely agreed on all of that. Hell, I only got my PSP from lik-sang because Sony were taking so damn long getting it out over here, but since it finally got released I've bought UK games like I am sure many other early importers have, so where exactly are they losing out? I read about all this stuff a while back, but I really never thought it would come to the point where one of my favourite online retailers would end up closing down. I'd be just as mad if it was playasia in trouble or any other retailer, but I must admit that because it's lik-sang it really upsets me even more. I've bought from them before and they've always been fantastic to deal with in every possible way, and lik-sang were very helpful to this site in particular and even went as far as to provide me with a PS2 Neo Geo stick so that I could review it on the site. That was the reason I put up a few affiliate links from time to time for them when new SNK games came out as a way of returning the favours they did for me. I'm not sure I can honestly say I won't buy a PS3 and I do think that many people out there will still end up caving in eventually and getting one no matter how strongly they feel about this, but whereas a few years ago almost all my electical products were Sony (Walkman, my Trinitron TV, video, stereo, etc etc) and I loved the company, as time has gone on I have just lost more and more respect for them... I'm now at the point where I absolutely fucking detest them. I can guarantee my next TV and other AV products won't have a Sony badge on them at all, I'll say that much. Now, where can I pre-order that wii? Kaz

They say TOSHIBA is the best when it comes to electronics in japan, not sony, and after seeing the TOSHIBA multi-region TV (it can view PAL tapes) my uncle bought back in the 80's is still in working condition even up to now (you heard me right), I might buy only those kinds of TVs in the future. Fuck Sony ;D

I'm just waiting for the sales figures to come in after the wii and ps3 get released. I guarentee you the wii will outsell the ps3 2 to 1 just like the ds did the psp.

Fuck Sony ;D Hell yea, Toshiba stuff is "teh bomb"! ;D I have a Toshiba DVD Recorder with a 160gb hard drive and it's awesome, in fact my first ever DVD player from way back in '99 was a Toshiba. I really do like their stuff and I'll definitely be looking at their stuff when it comes to buying a new TV. I'm hoping the Wii does outsell the PS3... no matter what, people will buy the damn thing (and like I said before I will probably cave in eventually because I'm sure they'll beg ames I want on it), but it would be nice to at least see Sony get something of a bloody nose. They have been getting too big for their boots for a long time anyway. Kaz

America seems to care about visuals and being hip over gameplay. (Atleast that's what i can tell from U.S. game reviews, pop culture, and every gamer i've met where i live)

(Atleast that's what i can tell from U.S. game reviews, pop culture, and every gamer i've met where i live) not so much that, as the wii controller. I bought a gyromouse on my PC hoping to get an early feel for the experience and it has gameplay 'limitations'... I may post in the wii thread in a more detailed way, but I suspect a lot of minigames.
