After a slight amount of technical difficulty, i'm pleased to announce that GuardBreak now has access to a Kaillera server! For those of you who don't know, Kaillera is a system built into many emulators (including Kawaks and MAME) to allow online play with other people across the world. If the emulator you're using supports Kaillera, then you can use it to log on to the GuardBreak server, and start up a game (or join a game already in progress). So, if you want to play online, but are concerned about ping times, the Guardbreak Kaillera Server is there to use. I play Street Fighter Alpha 3, Marvel Vs. Capcom, King of Fighters 98', and Garou: Mark of the Wolves (but the server can be used to play whatever game you want to!), so feel free to get online and meet me for a game. Apparently IP addresses change quite a bit so i can't pin one down to publish, but if you access the server list through Kaillera, it's there under 'Guardbreak Kaillera server'.
So, come and throw down against me! I'll be in and out, but my handle is 'Debujin [UK]' (in case you see me on another server). This server won't be online all the time (at the moment!), but is usually operational from about 9pm onwards.
By the way, a shout out to my new friends hacCer_b and saten - two Kaillera users who discussed how to set up a server with me. Thankyou both - you two are gaming legends!

Would definately be up for a Kaillera session, though given that I'm still a newbie, my chances of being owned are very high! A game of Garou, SFA3 or KOF sounds pretty cool.
The trouble is that i don't actually know how to get Kaillera running in the first place. (I use Kawaks 154 and 146). There's a document in the kawaks folder called 'kailleraclient.dll', does that have anything to do with it? I've always been curious about Kaillera but have never really been able to try it yet. I know a few fellow gamers who are in the same boat as me and I know that they'd want to join in as well.
Kudos on the Guardbreak site by the way. ;D

On WinKawaks 1.54, there's an option in the File menu called 'Start netplay'. When this is clicked, a new window opens with five tabs; 'All servers', 'Recent', 'Favourites', 'Waiting games' and 'Options'. Here's a brief review of what goes on in each tab... All servers: Pings all available servers on the main Kaillera list. Takes a while - there's about 200 to go through. Recent: A list of all the severs visited recently on the machine you're using (may be blank on first visit). Favourites: A list of bookmarked sites that you visit regularly. Waiting games: A list of games across the world that have been started and are waiting for another person(s) to join. Options: Preferences about how Kaillera operates. --- Basically, if you want to get a quick game going, make sure you've got downloaded ROM files that Kawaks can access, find a server, and double-click on it. From there, you're logged into that particular server, where there'll be a list of users and games that are running (or waiting to run). Before you go to a game, make sure an alternate set of controls defined, because the other player may well use the P1 slot. Double-click on one of the games that you have the ROM for, and wait for a while - Kawaks will start working, and a new game will launch. Then whack in some credits, and press the congifured start button. If you want to start a game yourself, log on to a server and click 'Create game' - a menu of letters will appear. Go to the letter that the game name starts with, and then go through the list of games that appears. Click the one you want to play, and then a game will be open. Wait until someone enters the game, and click 'Start game'. This time, i think you'll be using P1 controls. Okay! Any more questions or problems, feel free to ask or PM me. Don't worry about ping times - games are playable up to about 100ms. If you want a smoother game, use a European or British server (like for instance, the GuardBreak server ). Don't worry about experience - there are a lot of trash-talking kiddies on there to start with, but also a fair share of veterans who don't back down. Thankyou for the kudos, by the way.

Cheers Debujin
I'll give it a play with later. Although it may be a little while as my PC has just decided to die on me!
I'll give the Guardbreaker server a visit when all is well again.
a bit like every online game then. I guess it wouldn't be the same without it!
Thanks for your help.

I might pop on sometime, but the last time I tried Kaillera it constantly crashed my PC. Might be time to try again though, although I am a lamer myself compared to some of the people I used to play on there before! Kaz

So, can anyone help me? Both me and my friend (Who want to play Alpha 3) can't get netplay working in Kawaks. When we click "start netplay" it pops up the netplay window for a split seocnd, and then the emulator crashes. (No error message, it just dies.)
Any ideas?

There are explanations to both those questions... garylisk: What's happened is that the Kaillera client used to play online has become redundant (due to the Kaillera website staff not updating), and a new version has become available. From the Anti3D website www.anti3d.com/downloads.php download the file called 'kaillera.dll', and use it to replace the existing file called 'kaillera.dll' in each folder where the emulators you use are stored. y45hiro: This problem could be to do with the version of the particular emulator to use (i'm guessing Kawaks?) - some updates come with a more accurate list of games supported, so downloading the newest version of an emulator is sometimes beneficial. If you want compatibility, MAME .64 is a version that many people use.

Hi Debujin
I guess you're pretty sick of Kaillera Questions. I'll try to make this brief.
When my Kaillera program (Anti 3d server 09 - I think it's the same as the one on your link actually) searches for server lists, it can't find any and says 'error requesting server list'. Is there a way around this or can I just enter an ip directly? Or maybe it's something to do with my firewall?
(+1 Karma to you for all your kaillera help)

Firstly, thankyou for the karma bonus - 'tis an honour. As for Kaillera, it's possible that you're having firewall trouble - although i don't recommend that you disable it (better safe than sorry). It's possible to input IP addresses manually, so i suggest that may be a better way of using the system. It may take a bit longer, but it's better than having loads of crazy interweb shit gum up the machine you're using. A large list of servers and IP addresses can be viewed manually through a web browser at www.anti3d.com/topservers. As of next year, i intend to start paying for a static IP address to host a server - at the moment the IP of this computer is changed regularly, so adding myself to the server list on Anti3d.com would be pointless. However, in the new year i intend to have a static server running, which i intend to watch to keep it free of trollers and spammers. All users of the NGFL forum will be very welcome.

Thanks once again.
I'll give the I.P addresses a try. Good luck with getting your own static server up and running. I'll do a search for Guardbreak and will hopefully see you there soon!
