Bum buuum... Bum buuuum... BUM BUUUUUUUUM! I've come with an editor I've made in a day. It can edit any Neo-Geo palette. But in fear of people using this to make fake arcade games, should I release this?

Hi and welcome to the forums That looks pretty cool. I don't think it's a big deal if you do release it - people out there who want to release bootleg/hacked arcade games already have the facility to do so, in fact there are already lots of hacked roms with different palettes and stuff floating about, and we've already seen hacked games like KOF 2004/KOF 10th Anniversary/Crouching Tiger. Your tool will just make a it a bit easier for other people who would like to mess around with the colour palettes on their roms a bit. Are there any other tools like this already floating about? Kaz

Thanks for the welcome. I doubt there are any other tools like this floating around. KOF2K4, KOF10TH, and CTHD2003 all seem to be made by better, perhaps official, tools. Hence the bug-less backgrounds and other changes. I'll release it to this forum only, for now. All the bugs aren't fixed, (it won't remind you to save, nor will it handle negative numbers and letters on the box) and there is no help file. So I'll just put the essentials here. stc.aftervision.com/Nestea/NeoPalv09.exe <-- The program (it's small) stc.aftervision.com/Nestea/NeoPalSample.txt <-- Some SNK Vs. Capcom values (works with all versions) Instructions are simple: * Take the file with "p1" on it out of the ZIP file. * Open NeoPal and load it. * Enter one of the numbers above in the box and hit Reload. * Hit the big boxes to move left and right. * If you've played a fighting game with this kind of option, you know how it works (except that it's harder without knowing what you're editing) * Save it and put the file back in the ZIP file. * Run the game. If you want to send your edit to someone, just do it like the other games. Make a list of the edited values (like "28 11 23 | 24 01 23 |") or use IPS patches. So far, the only values that I've noted are the SNK Vs. Capcom values. I can find more. Just request the game.

Thanks! I'll give it a try when I get a chance. Anyone else tried it yet?

nestea: nice beginning but only useful for simple hacks, are you able to create some tools for free neogeo-development? a win32 fix- or spriteviewer with edit-funktion would be nice! blastar...

Probably not. I don't know anything about the Neo-Geo sprite layout.

NeoPal was programmed in Visual Basic. I'm too lazy to learn Visual C++. Though I do know a little about C.
Meh, I'll figure it out. In the meantime, does nobody want me to search for character palettes?

Until I develop a list. Here is the Yamazaki LP palette:
3037168
This is in the P2 rom, not the P1.
