no, man. it's 99 all the way. people like 98 because there's little you can criticize about it, but it's pretty by the numbers. 99 has easily got the best backgrounds. has new character like K'. has the striker system. and even a *storyline*. 98 is overrated. people like 98 becuase it is essentially the KOF that you can pick up and play, without the need to learn anything *deep* like the striker system.. but still get the KOF experience. it's well balanced and the handling is the "perfected" KOF (even 97 wasnt that fluid), it's a "SUMMARY" of KOF although , aesthetically, 99 is probably one of the best looking KOF or NEOGEO games, i agree, heck i love 99Evolution, but i think it now has a different tone compared to the KOF's that made us love KOF. Not a bad thing though. in my opinion that is... but to sum it up, 98 deserves to be overrated. still, even 2k2 has "dethroned" 98 is many aspects..

You know that's one of the things CvS 2 has over Chaos.
I dont really care for the roster either. How are you going to have Genjuro and no Haohmaru? plus the fact that alot of my favorite characters thats were in CvS were not in Chaos such as Cammy, King, Joe, Rock Howard. Kasumi seems very lame and Gonitz being in there dose not help also.

I played Cvs2 to death on GC.......very nice game. My favorite there is geese.....but no matter how hard I try I cant do his rising storm.....pain in the ass. But in SvC I can do it with ease. It just looks lame compared to his previous Rising storm's. BTW that MUKAI is one tough fighter. Cant beat him unless I cheat. Very cool design.......off topic I know...sorry.

Personaly I can help myself but love most of the KOF's anyway. I mean my fave titles in the series are 98, 2000 and '02. Although I did like 99 I think I perfer 2000 because it has more strikers (Duck King w00t!) and the characters have "progressed" a bit more although it did have one propbem and that was it backgrounds which were not bad per say but just just weren't excellent either.

^depends on the look you are going for... the thing is 'technically' the neo will not have the best looking game simply due to resolution BUT, technical smetnical, the neo has some awesome 16bit sprite and pallette charmers ... 99 is prettier than 98 just because its a better finished and more coherent overall. I'd reccomend last blade 1/2 if you like the anime-esque motw kind of appearance but want a fighter that plays differently. If you're looking for something of a more old school I'd go with fatal fury special. Just reminds me of the kind of illustrative spray paint look everyone wanted back then Admit it. If you've got the neo bug a lot of the games will appear good looking simply because they are some of the very best ever released on what was the best piece of kit around > FACT If you're looking for a newer 32 bit era 2d fighter the obvious one to check out would be guilty gear (easily availble on the dreamcast/ps2/xbox) which was the first popular one to really break out effective hi res sprites.

Yeah I totaly forgot Last Blade1/2......but imo MOTW and SF3 are better looking games than GGX series.....they contain more animations but lack the resolution as you said. BTW is it me or is the xbox version of SF3 crap compared to DC version?...it's probably just me.

Yes it supports live........but CAPCOM has fucked the graphics a bit if you ask me.....it still looks awesome...just not as good as the DC version. The gameplay is the same. Look for Street Fighter Anniversary and you will find it.

no, man. it's 99 all the way. people like 98 because there's little you can criticize about it, but it's pretty by the numbers. 99 has easily got the best backgrounds. has new character like K'. has the striker system. and even a *storyline*. 98 is overrated. i'll admit 98 isn't 100% perfect (but what game is?), i mean the line up isn't as good as 96's, there is the obvious lack of story line but that's it. it still remains the best example of the series. 99 is good, but horribly incostient, some stages look amazing whereas others like the dinosaur world stage look, well, rubbish. k' is cool, but the new kyo is no fun at all, both in appearance and playability. whereas in 98 i can't think of a single stage that doesn't feel out of place or that i don't like playing in. i'm going to be controversial here, but i really think 2002 is the worst game in the series. in fact i really don't think they should have bothered with it at all. every time i play it i can't help thinking that i'm playing some mugen esque hack knocked up by people soley interested in making a quick buck. too many cameos, poor and, for the most part rushed, presentation, predicable line up, non-descript music. i could go on. its a debasement of kof. as for super cancels, come on, they're not that orginal, let alone great... i think the problem with svc chaos is that its to much a reaction to cvs2. whereas the latter in my my mind is too convoluted with all the grooves and massive line up and lo res 2d on hi res 3d graphics, the former is too simplistic, with too few characters who are pretty unbalanced. but you have to put kof 2002 and svc chaos in perspective, both titles were cash ins and designed to sell as many copies as possible and the devlopers knew that they would regardless so it doesn't surprise me at all that they're by no means representative of snk's best.
