I just played alot of SvC Chaos on xbox and I liked it alot....I have seen some screens and clips from the AES version and they looked very clean and sharp. But the xbox version is bit pixilated and nowhere as clean from what I have seen so far. Is it just me or is this port a perfect translation? Is there any animation cuts?
Sorry for the noob quastion.

Don't think there are any animation cuts, and to be fair the animation was pretty poor in some places. Certain characters animated well, while others look poor. One problem with porting games from one system to another is that usually each system runs at a different resolution, and with Neo ports this REALLY show. Sometimes the sprites look pixellated, but other times they filter them which smooths them out a bit but you end up with a kind of blurry look.
SVC was a very mixed bag though visually, as with the varying levels of animation, some stages looked nice, others were extremely average, and the same with the sprites. I'd say the Xbox and PS2 ports are pretty much the same as the Neo version though, other than the resolution issues, and the extra features that were added. There may be slight gameplay differences too - for instances I always had problems pulling out certain charge moves with Guile on the Neo, but it seemed like that problem had been rectified on the PS2. Not really seen much of the Xbox version though so I can't comment on it much.

to add, both PS2 and XBOX ports have redrawn (sort of) BG's with higher resolution and transparency effects

I didn't see any real difference in the backgrounds on SVC for the Xbox/PS2 at all. The only change really was the transparency on the projectiles.
Other SNK games mostly have hi-res backgrounds, but I really don't think they touched SVC much at all from what I remember (been a while since I played it)

In my opinion, SVC was a game that had major potential but ultimatly fell flat. One complaint I have is the collision. An example would be Akumas uppercut attack. The collision is so unpolished that if your character were to touch his feet, you would take damage.
The character roster is also weak. Why they chose to include cheap ass characters like Goenitz without dumbing them down is baffling. Whenever I fight the guy I end up losing like 3 times in a row due to that damn tornado technique. Where's the Balance, people?!
The stages are downright forgettable, as they have nothing spectacular going on in the background.

I'm with Wyvernlord on this one.
Goenitz is one mean and cheap mother ******.......and the stages are boring. Not all of them but 80%. I dont know what it is that attracts me to this game?. I like the looks of it though.

I'll be honest though. Aside from the games faults, there's plenti of enjoyability in it. Without this game, I would have never been introduced to Shiki, who is in my opinion, one of greatest SNK characters ever made.
Right down to the design, the chilling voice, her attacks and poses, I enjoy playing through the game as Shiki. Genjuro's cool too, though why they added Earthquake and that chick from Warzard is beyond me. While I like Kasumi, I would perfer to see Yuri over here. Sakura too, as she's pretty fun. Am I the only one who thinks Balrogs sprite was based of Heavy Ds.
While I'm not sure wether this is due to porting, but has anyone noticed that the sound effects seem a tad loud. Whenever I hear Mai do here "Nippon Ichi" thing I just feel like muting it. This probably due more to the way it's said then the volume though.

svc chasos is just ... a freaking enigma ... A broken but alluring game if ever there was one. Unfortunately it wasn't the game I wanted... this pissed me off loads initially. I imagine it annoyed a lot of other people too upon its release. But ... theres a charm in it... if only there was a bit more reasoning in it... As for the offensive rolling I believe there was a certain pandering to the capcom game mechanic in an attempt to get the most out of the capcom franchise and create a more unique fighter. Which is not a bad aspiration... IF the animation and hit detection had been top notch this would have an interesting choice... as it is the game is a bit of a mess and players begin to wish for on of their known, tried and tested game mechanics and styling. However, this is still very confusing. If you were going to mish mash the games together surely you would do that completely: On the backend of the capcom anniversary games you would almost be expecting a swave of options to allow players to choose their game mechanics in minute detail and pitch various versions of each character versus each other without worrying about balance... eg. ryu alpha1 vs. terry 2001 etc... or even ryu with KOF features etc... Almost a bit like snk vs capcom custom grooves ... whereby you would have a kind of aliens versus predator face off - no one said it would always be fair or perfect but it would be fun and the mishmash of mechanics and animations would be someway justified.. As it was chaos didn't stand for a 'maybe a bit unbalanced but interesting' and seems to literally stand for ... erm ... chaos... as the creators seemed to attempt a game mechanics from scratch. In their defence maybe they wanted to avoid the re-release syndrome which the capcom annversary editions were often criticised for. It is a little disappointing but this game has certainly become a talking point and after you take it more as a gimic/bit of a laugh (and not the great/legendary fighter it was advertised as) the more you will like it The truth behid this game is probably that there was no clear design concept at the outset...

i actually really like svc chaos. weird, i know.
with regards to goenitz, i often play as violent ken (how cool!), and teleport through all of his tornadoes, piece of piss.
the backgrounds are naff, and the roster a bit sketchy in places, but it does have 36 playable characters which is far more than most capcom fighters. but underneath it all, is a very enjoyable game. i think the speed is right, respsonsive controls, etc. but the REAL fun, is when you learn how to abuse the MAX meter and bust out insane combos.
i find it frustrating when people criticize it for not being "tournament level". waku waku 7 isn't tournament level, doesn't stop it being a great game tho. in some respects it's an oddity, like guilty gear. but unlike that game, it has lo-res sprites, no fancy effects, and feel already-dated.
but it's got gameplay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah the gamplay is good.....kind of. I borrowed KOF2003 from a friend today.....imo they have destroyed the BG in this game......why jump to 3d BG? The characters look even more pixilated now because of that....I liked the neo-geo version much more......it has better graphics if you ask me. But I really like the gamplay.....Ihave only played KOF94 and 2003 so I'm no expert but 2003 is nice man. But my goal is to get KOF98......the best KOF if I'm not wrong?

no, man. it's 99 all the way.
people like 98 because there's little you can criticize about it, but it's pretty by the numbers. 99 has easily got the best backgrounds. has new character like K'. has the striker system. and even a *storyline*.
98 is overrated.

Really....I just read the reviews and it seems our man KAZ agrees with you.....I need 99 too then....I love 2d graphics.....like 3strike and MOTF......and everyone is saying 98 rocks in this department. Man it is such a pitty we wont see the newer SNK games on the NEO. Which game is the best looking fighter on the neo in your oppinon. MOTF is one of them obviously.
