NOT when your talking about Metal Slug. When you make Metal Slug 3D, you take all the nice gameplay away. Metal slug just has to stay 2D.

3D Slug! Oh god no. I seem to remember seeing some shots of this game a while back, it looked terrible, i don't have an issue with 3D but this looked real bad.
Maybe you are right, Slug games should be 2D only. If it ain't broke and all that. Regardless tho the 3D one looked poor. Thing is - for me - the beauty of slug games is in the level design, hand drawn sprites and graphics set against superbly rendered colourful backdrops. This effort had nothing to set it apart. The games (Especially 2 and X ) are a sight to behold and i always think i could just sit and watch them on demo. Add in all the comedy and weapons and you have a classic game. Love them.

Yea...it is confirmed to be real (this info has been released a while ago) I agree that metal slug should stay in 2D...but none of us have played it so you really can't judge it just yet. Yes it does look terrible but as of now, I myself am hoping for the best

I guess there just trying to get a wider audience. It's not perse a bad thing but it's really hard to translate the metal slug 2d gameplay to 3d. I just hope they will keep making the 2d also.

Yeah it's been known about for ages, Metal Slug *SHOULD* indeed stay 2D, and what's more this game looks horrendously bad. SNKP are just trying to make a cheap buck off the name and also attract some mainstream consumers I think, although even that will be hard with a game that looks this bad. I'll try it just to see how it is but I have absolutely no hopes whatsoever for it.

Hey come on... 3D KOF isn't THAT bad It's nowhere near the 2D versions, but still a fun game imho... MS3D still looks horrendous however Kaz OK I am stupid... I pressed edit your post (instead of quote) and tacked what I just said above onto your post Goemon, which is why it says I edited it... I just deleted it and posted it again... me=dumb!

I felt Maximum Impact was ok at first as well but the ability to hit people while on the ground not only brings the skill level way down imo but just plain breaks the game. It definately does what it was made for imo, bring in the casual main stream gamers that wanna play something only in 3d that's easy.

KOF MI is totally broken, and yea to me it resembles the easy-to-get-into 3d fighters that flooded the market, something i prayed KOF would never turn into. Still, I applaud SNK with a decent effort into making this happen.

maximum impact's alright but wasn't too keen on the new characters and did get bored of it pretty quickly.
as for 3d metal slug, i wholehaeartedly agree with matt (though i personally consider metal slug 3 to the best of the series), this looks horrible. whoever commissioned and directed this shoud die in a classic metal slug fashion.

IMHO the 3D game will suck-ass... Changing it from 2D is sacrilegious.. ;D

OK ... 'metal slug' is a masterful 2d game. It's a goddamn gaming legend! First of all this particular game appears to be a 3rd person game a la tomb raider and not a direct descendant/sequel to metal slug series. [Although I don't know ... never seen these shots before and can't read japanese ] With that in mind, my view is that any game titled metal slug blah blah should stick to the format 2d platform/shooter format ... If the slug franchise were to feature in different games I'd prefer if it was titled blah blah [featuring] metal slug or something like that. This isn't some 2d nazi preservation pose. In fact I love 3d: I'm a 3d artist. But metal slug has its very identity in its 2d styling. I don't mind seeing the slug franchise in other games - but so long as the focus on the 2d platformer identity was not lost. Part of this is because it would change the very essence of the game. So for example if the above games was titled metal slug 7 or something this would stand against the legacy, memories and expectations that the words metal slug imbue. People are naturally disappointed when their expectations are not met even if the resulting game is ok - svc chaos anyone? I'd also like to think game producers should be competant enough to develop new characters for games that would not necessarily benefit themselves by using pre-existing characters < It is ALWAYS important to note that adopting a franchise doesn't simply just grant you with a media library to utilise and free publicity; you also adopt a huge responsiblity ... The disregard of this very responsiblity has plagued many games based on movie franchises. And vica versa movies based on video games... or come to that any combination of games, comics, music, novels, film, anime, sports, history etc.
