So i got to play KOF Neowave for a few hours last night. Yay?
Anybody who's got the chance to play it go ahead and post your opinions here. I'll go ahead and post my rant now. (READ IT! and post your opinons after your play the game or you'll hurt my feelings
)
First of all, i'll get my most negative feeling out of the way. If SNKP doesn't get their controls tighter on their ports they mind as well just quit all together.
As for the graphics, considering all the negative opinions i've read about the bgs i was supprised that i liked them in this game probably more then any other snkp has done. Some of them are just akward and don't fit well with the sprites but most of them are absolutely beautiful imo and i was very happy with 'em. The ability to change the sprite pallets is also a nice feature. Probably the only bad thing i can say about the visuals is the horrible sprite smoothing effects that are nowhere near as good as 2sai and just makes the characters look like they're out of the game "Clay Fighters" And the Young Geese sprite is ablsolutely pathetic imo. (and i like the way the old Geese played better as well) The Art work isn't bad for some characters but as i've said before some people like Takuma and Robert are just laughably bad.
Now about the music, the Select screen music almost knocks SF3 off it's pedistal of dung with an extremely horrible rap thing that kind of makes me wanna puke after a while but the the music in all the stages though not as good as the old kofs is pretty original and is better then the music in any of the previous kofs by snkp imo.
The gameplay is pretty much kof 2k2 style but some of the moves that didn't connect right seem to be fixed and some of the characters have had their sprites tweaked a bit. (like Iori's hair being fixed and a new Orochi Chris sprite that is kinda cool but doesn't fit well with the rehashed animations of all his moves)
So, as a whole this could have been a damn decent game even considering the small collection of characters and is the best kof by snkp yet but.. I'm able to pull off all the moves for the DC ports flawlessly and have no prob pulling off moves for ps2 ports of SF3 or Guilty Gear. I've also read alot of reviews of kof 2k2 on the ps2 and it seems that they have the same complaint. I know i'm not crazy and controls for the game are just a mess. Other then that i recomend this game to anyone though stuff like the bad controls is just another thing making us hardcore snk fans look like fools to the main stream gamers that have just started playing kof games with all the ports by snkp. And that kinda pisses me off
