Hello everyone - I am a relative newbie on to these forums and to buying neo geo mvs carts. I have been very excited about getting my hands on mvs games since I just finished building myself a supergun + 1 slot mvs (MVH-Slot1T).
Anyways, I have always wanted to pick up Garou: Motw and there are 2 games on ebay right now. Great Western Trade company is selling them right now and they have shots of the game's (snk branded) pcbs. The problem was that both games pcbs looked different due to a few additional eproms (windowed) on one copy and not the other.
They reassured me that these were 100% original - and I believe them. They told me the reason was that snk ran out of chips or something, so they used programmable eproms. Again, not all the chips in the Garou cart were windowed eproms, just 3-4 chips. Is this a regular occurance in MVS carts? If so, is this difference in pcbs(in Garou) purely cosmetic or are there gameplay/music/graphic alterations?
One more thing, people have said that the older 1 slot motherboards can't play newer games like rage of the dragon, kof2003, ss5, etc. - is this true with my model (MV1-T)?
Sorry if this has been asked before - I have already tried to look at previous postings.
Thanks
Hung

Sorry if this has been asked before - I have already tried to look at previous postings. Thanks Hung Windowed eeproms do occur on even 100% legit games - I've had loads of them on carts that I know are 100% legit. They can be on there for many reasons - it could have been a cart that was repaired by SNK at some point, or something similar. They can be a thing that points to a cart being a bootleg sometimes, but a lot of the time it doesn't. Some boots are easy to spot though, while others are a lot more professionally made... there's thing to look out for though, like making sure that the actual boards they are on are official SNK etc... there was actually a site that listed things to look out for, as well as showing pictures of many bootlegs out there. The best place to look is on neo-geo.com's tech forum, as this question is often asked on there, or perhaps ask on there. As for the 1-slot thing, it depends on what 1 slot board you have. My original board was an MV1: www.hardmvs.com/html/MV-1.htmGreat board, but unfortunately it did have problems running Rage of the Dragons when I bought the kit from the Neostore. It locked up after a few minutes of play, or sometimes even sooner. I never got to personally try any of the other newer games because I ended up selling that board and buying a 4 slot, but I did hear that other games had problems too Welcome to the forum btw! Kaz

Thanks for the info. I wound up purchasing the cart with all black chips instead of the windowed version. I wasn't suspicious or anything though I don't think I'll be getting the newer games anytime soon, but by then I might think about a 2 or 4 slot. Thanks again.
