Yup, gotta hand it to SNKP...this game officially ROCKS!!!! It really stands up there with the best, it even got me a little in the same acceleration that MS 3 had. I didn't expect a lot from the sprites and stuff but the enemies and vehicles are all revamped....awesome stuff there. Plus the new metal slug mobil suit you get to ride is one of the coolest vehicles so far to be used in the games, very heavy looking and you really can tell by the heavy controles you got to use to turn it around and stuff. Now something very interesting that some of you might have seen already. It appears that the demon at the end of level 5 is not the true final boss, but the old shaman that puts on the mask in the end sequence of level 1. Lots of speculation going on about the truth behind this. Some say they cut the boss out of the game , some say they are fakes, some say they are true and you get there if you meet the right conditions...........we'll see in a matter of time, i suppose. I've copied some pics of them to my site but if you want to read all the details, please go over to neogeo.com to get the original post. www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=6190ccc0a42e51c93eadc6ce8f6cc817&threadid=76674 Seiryu

Yeah seiryu I just saw those pics a minute ago... I am REALLY hoping that they are actually in the game, as it would be a crying shame. It's funny because I was actually thinking about taking a look through the roms as the same thing happened with Metal Slug X where you could actually access a load of different stages (that were empty unfortunately) that were not used in the game, they just got left in the game code, probably down to some lazy programmers. As far as I know though, those stages were later used in MS3.
Anyone know what tool you can use to browse through the gfx roms? I'd like to take a look myself. I don't really doubt the guy that posted them on neo-geo.com as he isn't really the type of guy to lie, so I don't *think* that these have been fakes... I could be wrong though...

News of this boss makes me really happy, yet quite pissed if they're real and he was left out. First off it would make perfect sense for the shaman to be the end boss (if not, why the hell bother showing that begining sequence) & i absolutely dispise the end boss that is in the game as it is now. (the only thing i dispise about this excellent game) It makes no sense to fight some gigantic beast thing that has nothing to do with the story. If these are not fakes, & they where cut out i'd be pissed, if they are fakes then kudos to whoever did them for they have designed a better & more fitting boss then the would be proffesionals that made the game.
After reading the thread that Seiryu posted i do believe that they are real considering lots of stuff seems to have been left out, (area's, tanks & stuff) it really blows how an already good game could have been even more plesantly memorable.

I still love this game, but I am beginning to wonder WTF happened during its development cycle. Check these pics that were posted while the game was being developed: Compared it to this (the real game): Very different, the first pic looks better than the real game. Now this: That's different. Now this: Looks like a whole section here is missing, I have never seen that. Also, here's some pics that I found in a forum that show the debug bios being used to access the shaman stuff and that boss: Those shots seem to be real, but there is still no word on if you can access this stuff normally by doing something special. From the looks of things it is just like the MSX situation where they are left on the cart but not accessible. Goemon is right - if they had taken the time to do it right, MS5 could have gone from being a damn good game to an exceptional one, and one that could have equalled MS3. Oh well, maybe they'll decide to add this stuff to the eventual PS2 port or something... Kaz

Its as if playmore got things so well with ms5 they had to hold up & decide "hey now, this game is lookin to good" *tosses out already perfect first looking mission 1 jungle and proceedes to make a much less attractive one* What proffesional company has pictures of cool looking slugs sprites in there poster and don't put them in as if their fans are all just a bunch of dummy's and won't notice. But who knows, maybe for instance they created the shaman sprite & then couldn't place fitting attacks for him with still making the game fun (as if the current end boss is ) but all together i feel kinda insulted by snkp with all this & as much as i enjoy ms5 the end boss keeps me from concidering it as a fully endlessly playable game like i feel about ms1 & 3. I find myself playing through ms5 all the way to the last bosses then quitting cause its pointless playin it any further ;D About the lazer shooting tank in the 3rd pick it actually is in the game though with a different backround, i found it thanks to some jammin explorer over at teh neo-geo.com forums. For everbody who hasn't found it yet- "It's in the first stage. In the first obvious fork path in the temple, take the lower route, which leads you to a slug. Follow that route until you reach the stairs. Climb to the top, free the POW, then wait til it says "go". Rather than proceeding to the right, (boss) go to the left. There are several enemy soldiers shooting at something. Kill them, then you will face the laser slug." Can't believe i hadn't thought of going left there ;D I've also seen a bunch of pics taken of another secret area that i strongly believe is in the game but i haven't been able to locate yet.

The far back of the fist junglescreen of the test version looks rahter better, but can´t really be sure how it really looks, as the screenshot is very, very dark and the shot is kinda edited from the scan it was taken to make it look better. It looks painting-like, not screenshot-like. The trees and the fuller background of the real screenshot(Second screen) with the vains where they tarzan from to your cano looks less deep cos it has no darkness in it unlike the scan from gamespot. But other than that, it looks great IMHO. Yup, that evil slug in level one kicks ass. It is the same as the one on the screenshot Kaz uploaded Maybe that fortress level that shows Fio axing away with that guard tower in the back, is also a hidden level? Sure hope so........ Hey, here´s a nice one.......maybe SNKP never used all those extras like the true end boss turtle boss and levels we never saw in the game, to safe them up for the sequel that they are bringing out in the summer to conclude the metal slug story, Metal Slug5,conclusion. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D...lol, just a theory, so don´t go posting that in other forums as real news or games to come.

I know im probly kinda late on this but i just found the secret area on level 3 no new slug though, its a shame cause that evil heli slug would have fit perfectly in the area. I've played thru the game 3 times in a row today on a mission just to find new area's but i can only find 2. Playing so many times in a row like this really makes me notice stuff more, like how in the final mission while driving the car slug when you see the tower of the end boss in the back you can see the dark formation on the top of what looks like this- in the distance... so many reasons why its unacceptable to not have the shaman as the end boss, its a shame.

So is it proven that there is a second boss to the final for ms5. I have to admit the armared turtle looks kick ass .ended it with one coin and got the same boss. ms5 is better than 4,but X AND 3 take the price.may be the shaman is going to be on the port for ps2.

Played it again today and .....man, it gives me the same adrenaline rush that MS 3 gives me. I think the music really pumps up the solid gameplay. And that new heavy walking mobil slug of level one.....totally the best slug i´ve seen so far.

Buddha without Romz?? That´s impossible! Never thought that would ever happen.... LOL! i was not that "EXCITED" about this game, and i was im too lazy to look for teh romz of mslug5 but now that i have IT... all i can say is.... what does the slide do? i reminds me of megaman but the music is good, real good this time the slugs are betting imho, but the char select screen is sooo... shitty, Fio looks like a nerd scintist from the 1920's but overall, one of the better games PLAYMORE has released...
