Hello.
I've already been to #neo-0 and found the people in there really friendly and helpful. What I basically need is some advice on buying a Neo-Geo AES. I've recently been in the position to buy a Jap AES from a friend of a friend (I've always wanted a neo-geo) and I just really want to know what to look out for when I go and test it out tomorrow. Also, I hear the earlier serial numbers have better picture quality? what kind of range is best for this?
Kazuya_UK has been a great help on IRC but he suggested I post here as he tells me he's more of an MVS guy.
Btw, the console comes boxed with a stepdown converter etc and three games AOF2, Samurai shodown 2 and Fatal Fury Special. any more recommendations on (cheapish!) games?.
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Cheers, Ebs.

Welcome to the forum! Hopefully some of the other members like Raiken and harv will see this soon, as they might be able to give you advice that I can't... good luck anyways! ;D Kaz

...well, for anyone who's interested here's an update... Went for the 'viewing' of the AES today, first thing that hit me was the size of the bleedin carts. I knew these things were well known for being big but bloody hell. (I bet all the newbies say that though The guy set it all up and talked me through the connections and stuff, he had quite a few of the KOF games, 94,96,97,98 and 2000...unfortunately they weren't for sale. He whacked KOF2000 on and gave me a quick game. After that he plugged the games in that he was selling to me to show they all worked fine. AOF2, Samsho2 and Fatal Fury Special. I had a good look at the console and both joysticks and I was amazed to see that there isn't a bloody mark on them...no cracks on the joystick ball, no scratches on the console, it's all in brilliant condition. the owner said it's had a 'lot of love'...I wasn't quite sure what he meant by that The box is in great condition too but its showing some wear around the edges, handles still in perfect condition and there's no holes in the box at all, just the odd dent here and there...all the polystyrene packaging is in there together with the manual and 2 SNK certificate's...I was quite surprised to see that actually. I didn't know the serial number until I actually saw the console, but I was quite impressed to find out the serial number is actually 056058...one of the earlier models right? and according to Harv (via PM) he assures me that all the models pre-70000 have superior RGB output (I've just ordered an RGB lead from ravengames.) The carts are in their original boxes and come with instruction manuals. they're in the 'fold over' plastic boxes, not the clamshells. Overall I'm really happy. all this for £200. (I did try to get him to take £190 but he wouldn't budge...) so, hopefully I'll be spending a bit more time on these forums now, thanks to Kazuya and Harv for all the help and also to everyone on IRC. I really appreciate it. Ebs (Neo-Geo AES owner....FINALLY!!)

Yeah, Gamestation are complete arse-bandits when it comes to anything even remotely 'retro'...The one in southport has a loose Commodore 64 in the window carrying the price tag of 80 quid, no box or anything. There's also a neo-geo pocket color in there with a few unboxed games weighing in at £70. rip-off, I bought a boxed NGPC from ebay for under £20...I won't even touch gamestation for stuff like that. I try and keep an eye on console prices etc. as I'm a bit of a collector. I saw the AES as the final link in the chain and I'm seriously not bothered about getting any more consoles...so far I've got... Xbox, PS2, Gamecube, a Bandai SwanCrystal, a Neo-Geo Pocket Color, Nintendo N64, Nintendo NES, Nintendo DS, Dreamcast, Saturn and of course the AES . And a bunch of games for each system...bit of an obsession I agree..

While we are on the subject of Samurai Showdown 2.......Has anyone noticed the H.R.Giger type Alien in the cauldron on Gen-an's background? I onestly never noticed that, or maybe it's just my hazy memory. I should remember something like that, considering it's my favourite Neo game ever (and perhaps even fave game of all time)... just goes to show how shite my memory really is Anyway, Ebs, congrats on your buy! Hopefully you get plenty of use and enjoyment out of it. Like I said on IRC though, if you need any help or advice in future, feel free to ask . Nice collection of consoles by the way! Kaz
