Hi I'm new to this forum and this is my first thread *duh* I want to introduce myself but before that I reall want a question answered which would help me alot if anybody can. My question is: Is it better to go with a phantom converter to play MVS games on your AES? Or would just buying a supergun adapter+MVS hardware motherboard a better way to go? I'm new to this whole thing despite owning a few AES systems back in the day. LoL My bad guys. DiDn't notice the value of my system until a month ago started jamming on KOF games and truly appreciated SNK and its system the Neo Geo. Thanks for any answers you can post. It would really help me a lot.

Hi and welcome to the forum Personally I'd prefer having an MVS/supergun, that's the way I have always gone. Fair enough, if you have the phantom/AES then you can play both MVS and home carts, but on disadvantage is that there are compatibility issues with the Phantom convertor. I've never used one myself, but I often see people in forums mentioning that "x game doesn't work for me", while other people say it works fine. It's a slight risk you take really, and the main thing you should consider before you buy one. MVS is the way to go if you in my opinion... but the main thing I'd say is to think carefully about what would be best for you before making a decision. So long as you are happy with your purchase, that's the main thing Hope that helps, Kaz

Thanks a lot Kaz. Actually I was hoping you directly for help last night, but unfortuantely I couldn't find your email. But thanks for answer exceptionally quick. My AES is getting used up and I don't know how long IT will stay playing. I wouldn't mind getting another motherboard and playing MVS carts from here. (via Ebay) I've read your faz Kaz but can you confirm a few things for me. All I would need is a Supergun+MVS motherboard+game cart to start jamming(I meant playing ) on a JAMMA board? Is there cable issues, wiring, anything else I should need to allow the Supergun attach to the MVS board to hook up on the TV with little problems? Thanks A Lot. BTW I luv your site. I look at it daily. Keep up the good work. Thanks for helping me through all of this.

Been having trouble finding an affordable Supergun or MVS hardware. Having no luck on ebay. These things get bought out quick hMmm. How much do these things usually run? Price they are usually sold at? Thanks for inquiry into my search for MVS hardware. oH and for your time reading mypost.

I use a phantom myself. The compatibility issues seem to affect the newest games like metal slug 5 and samsho 5 but so far everything I've thrown at it works. The main reason I chose a phantom is because I like the mods you can get for the aes system and in the long run the phantom saves you so much money.

When you mention compatibility issues do you mean there's a fitment problem trying to get the new games to play? Or the Supergun just doesn't seem to play the games? hMm If I get a supergun it would give me peace of mind and I wouldn't have to worry about hooking up the SCHART cable and such. Just a drop in and *clunk* IT PLAYS MVS CARTS!! ;D

Thanks a lot Raiken, Kaz for all the info. I'll keep that in mind when I'm shopping for the hardware. Right now I'm leaning toward MVS+Supergun setup. But it seems its going to be a little be more expensive than Phantom converter. But with the MVS setup I don't think any of my TV's have a SCART connection. Does anybody know what I can do about this? Anyway thanks for all the tech info. Really going to help me make more thought out decisions before choosing which path to take, and overspending.

Some superguns are made especially for the US market so they have SVHS connections... are you in the US? If so, you could get a supergun from somewhere like www.massystems.com as they do one called the supernova which might do the job for you. Might be a little expensive though... Kaz

Or I don't know if this exist, but if I could find a SCART adapter that leads to a S-video input, or composite input. Did such a adapter exist? Maybe not b/c I'm having trouble finding it online. But if anybody know any sites that sell them, I would greatly appreciate that. Thank You. Oh I can't wait to start playing MVS carts!! *wets himself*

I dunno about scart to SVHS, but I do have an adaptor that does SVHS -> scart. I don't know if you can get them the other way around...

Well I know this sounds stupid but I was thinking it would be possible to have SCART connection to FEMALE SCART ADAPTER, than attached to SCART cable with RGA/SVHS/S-VIDEO input end. IF I could just find a SCART cable into S-VIDEO/SVHS/RGA input ends that all my whims about owning a Supergun can be forgotten. Please tell me there is an answer. I want to play all MVS carts, so for now PHANTOM would be out of the question.
