Do any of you guys still remember when the neo was in its stride? All this hyping about NGBC , KOF XI, and SS T remind me of the magical time of the '90s..... remember waiting for games that where going to be released on the neo ? Lol i can still remember desperately waiting for KOF 2000... all the hype and everything....i can remember when SNK died and what a huge dissapointment it was... heck, i can even remember hearing about Real Bout FF 2 from my friends..... I know alot of you didnt know the neo back then, or have just recently got into it dont know about all this stuff, but those who have what do you remember?(P.S i havent made a thread in ages lol)

well i first saw AOF in 1994 and got to the whole neo-geo fanatic thing in 1998 after i saw kof 96. i remeber when i saw the intro, the he says the 1996. i kept on asking myself if there was previous games like it and f there was, will there be more, so i started to look around arcade for such a game, the next one i found was the slugfest 98, then i became a raving neo-lunatic. from there could not wait for the next game, i started looking into game intros at arcades and manufacturing labels and see if indeed noe-geo made all the nice games and believe you me i was not dissappointed.

I played AOF1 as soon as it was released, and loved it. After that I played Fatal Fury and a bunch of other games as they came out in our arcades (World Heroes in particular), but the point were I really started to take notice of SNK was when Samurai Shodown came out... I worshipped that game, and by the time SS2 came out I was an addict. I still think the point where SNK went from being a good developer into a GREAT one was when SS2 was released.
The main game I can remember anticipating was KOF '94 (all I had heard about was a game where you could pit AOF characters vs FF characters). I did lose track of the Neo for a couple of years after I left school (around 96), but I got dragged back in when I saw Metal Slug, KOF '98 etc etc.
NGPC was also something I couldn't wait to get my hands on, and I can remember the day when I bought mine and got SVC: MOTM with it... that was a fun day! ;D

Good thread idea Kuma, I like it....... My first encounter with the Holy Neo was back in 94', while everyone was force feeding the Street fighter 2 Turbo machine cash, down at our local 'Shipleys' (which had loads of arcade machines, just slots/bingo and old people now!!) I was mesmerised by this one machine tucked away in the corner.....Samurai Shodown, but none of my mates liked it and wouldn't play me two player!! Hence the machine must not of made much money because just as I was getting used to it, it was gone............But I never forgot it and to this day can still remember being 'excited' playing it.......... (Another thing I remember about it, well I'm pretty sure, it was a while ago! LOL, It had a widescreen monitor....) My first memories of the home console was seeing one in the back of a magazine that used to come out in the UK called 'C+VG Magazine', I remember seeing the advert for the gold system and about 4 or 5 games that were on offer at the time, I remember thinking 'Holy Shit!' when I saw the prices aswell!!! I knew I could never afford one then, maybe when I'm older!! Richer! Then skip forward in time to last year when I 'discovered' the internet and more importantly 'Ebay'. Can you geuss the first thing I ever typed into Ebay?? Oh yes, NEO GEO........................... The rest is history, I'm totally hooked/Broke!! I think It's fair to say that I will allways own a 'Neo Geo ' machine of some kind......Having owned an AES and a CD and playing many games, made me realise just how many SNKgames I've played over the years in different arcades and just didn't know it....................Fatal Fury Special comes to mind, played it once, waaaay back and never played it again..... Long Live Neo Geo (or should I say Neo Geo 4 Life !!)

C+VG mag was well cool... is that even around anymore though? I don't often buy print mags now, cos usually we know everything that's in them by the time they come out, thanks to the internet Funnily enough, the first thing I ever bought off Ebay was a Neo Geo CD game. RBFF2 ;D Kaz

Yes CVG is still going, I was put onto their subscription list when the official DC mag went bust.
AVOID THE CVG FORUM for your own sake.
I used to collect PcZone and they share the messageboard with a few other mags on Dennis publishing, so you get the worst of all fanbases argueing over trivial bolox.
Gotta love the regulars though.

I might have to go check that out... I can just imagine what it's like. GameFAQ's is bad for that too actually... although the site itself is great there are always people there arguing over the most ridiculous stuff!

To think I can look foreward to the atomiswave stuff in almost the same way you lot all went for the neogeo.
When I was younger the price for a neogeo was stupidly expensive so I made do with the "home" consoles and gradually as my interest in arcade cab's developed so did my love for the neogeo.
I have promised myself when I get enough money (or a job) I will buy me an AES, and maybe build a mame cab
I was aware of the neogeo back in the day but mainly in the MVS form, I can still remember seeing metal slug and kof 96 + a few other games and that was it.
The main game to get me into neogeo was KOF98, god bless that 8 foot man with the knife and cut finger gloves ;D

the first neo game i played was naturally fatal fury, but what really got me hooked (mostly cuz of the FRIGGIN LACK OF CHARACTER SELECTION IN ffking of fighters) was world heroes. crap i musta spent like $20's at a time playing that at the arcade with my brother who is also an snk fan. and shortly after came 2 and jet which was friggin awesome... fatal fury 2 was cool more needed characters, i love mai i need her in my team damnit, how can i play kof11 w/o her??

back in the day (around 1990-2/3) cvg was the shiznit. its where i first heard of the neo geo via a review of aof1 on the aes. not only that but i remember reading the staff columns when street fighter 2 first came out on the snes and all the staff portraits were "photoshopped" on ms paint to look like the characters out of street fighter, that and the fact they all laughed at one of the reviewers who got caught faredodging on the london underground big time. they also used to give away some seriously good stuff with the magazines from time time. in fact to this day i still own both volumes of the "rock hard book of tips" and a couple of metal badges, one of mario kart and another of sf2 turbo. but alas, my first neo experience was fatal fury on the megadrive, then later in the arcade once i found this dodgy takeaway called "a matter of taste" near me which had 2 4slot mvs machines. also, further down the same road was a magnificent greasy spoon called "pepes golden griddle" which looked (and smelt) like some delapidated time capsule of a new york burger bar from the 70's which boasted three 6 slotters and three one slot mvs' even if one of the screws near the joystick on one of them kept giving me an electric shock form time to time. it was in these places that i discovered samurai shodowns 1-4, kof 95/6/8, metal slug, windjammers and more. sadly those arcades are now long gone and when they went so did my interest in snk for the most part but i still rented out the ps1 ports of kof 95 and real bout whenever i could. its was then when i got a ngpc and snk vs capcom motm kof-r2 and sonic for christmas, which i still play to this day. i even own a copy of the rbff on the ps1 then a bit later i got broadband and now mame + neogeo cd 2 pad = win ;D
