The mods already know this, but I have been working on a new design for the site this past few days, and so far things are looking pretty good. I'm not the greatest at designing sites from scratch in all honesty, but I actually found quite a nice template somewhere, which I have altered a little bit to suit our needs. It's very cool because it looks smart, and is also much clearer than the old layout and most importantly: easier to navigate and loads faster.
I'm also playing with php a little bit to add a few things that visitors might like, such as a php news script, which is mainly to help us post news on the main page, but also has the facility to let visitors comment on news articles and send those news articles to friends, like you see on many other sites. It will be pretty good fun once it's all done, but it is quite a big task, so bear with me as I'm putting a lot of work into it right now to get it done. Once I'm happier with the layout I'll be back with a preview image or two if anyone wants to see it?

Hey Kaz I wouldnt mind a look at a preview. With everything you mentioned it sounds pretty awsome By the way Im sure you already mentioned a while back that you were planning a new design for the site, or maybe there were some posts made that might have tipped that off.

Yeah, I mentioned it in the future of the site thread Still lots of things I am playing with, but here's an early version... ignore my random ranting, that's just me testing the news script out Main page - notice the extra links for comments and stuff like that (I really want this one to be more user orientated), and also the fact that it's a lot neater and more informative than the old design. Finally, that quote thing at the top (under the banner) is random, as is the screenshot on the left, which also links people directly to the review of that particular game. This page looks a bit more simple, but it's just for viewing/posting comments on news articles. You'll notice the emoticons aren't on there properly, but there will be a full selectiong when the site is online properly. Comments and suggestions, and constructive criticism is welcome as always. Let me know if you think of anything that you'd like to see added or changed, I'll take it into consideration Kaz ps thanks to buddha for the banner, and darkgamer for the template design which I modifed a bit ;D

I like the design so far. Very slick, and functional. Definitely more modern too. Will this new design be fitted into all of the pages? e.g. I want to go to a particular review, and I will see the same skin?

I like this design as well. I think the link to the forum does not really stand out. Well...maybe that's just me. I find the "Featured News" and "Random Neo Screen" really cool. They catch people's attention.

I'm just playing about with that at the moment to try and get them looking just right, because the way they look currently just doesn't look quite right to me. For now I'm just playing around with all the various pages to try and get them exactly how I want them, and once that's done I'll get everything converted over to this design. Might take a while, which is why I want it all to look right before I start doing it I suppose you are kinda right about the link to the forum, as some people might not notice it... and at the moment we really could do with more members here as it's a bit slow right now. Thanks for the comments guys Kaz

looking good so far. i don't know if anyone else has suggested it, but would it be at all possible to have a "best of" neo geo page? i.e. something like the best ten or so games for system in the introduction to neo geo section or something. i know this may spark up a huge debate as to a possible list but there are games like kof '98, last blades 1 and 2, garou... metal slug 3 etc that are undisputed classics. maybe a page devoted solely to them might be useful to people who arn't that familiar with the whole neo geo thang. no?

I really like the banners Buddha made so far, but at some point I might do a "banner of the day" thing or whatever. We'll see, but most likely when we have enough banners I'll do it Great idea ;D. As you say, everyone disagrees on what the best games are, but I am definitely going to write an editorial to put on the site... something like "Kazuya's Neo Top 10" or something similar. I'll have that done for the sites re-opening in fact, as it shouldn't take me long to sort out. Also, in future I think it would be great for visitors to send in their own top 10 list with at least a small write-up on why they included those particular 10 games, and I could publish them on the site. Thanks for the suggestion man, I already added a link to "Kazuya's Top 10" to the main page of the new site so I don't forget to get it sorted! Been making some other new pages in my limited time on the PC tonight, like this one: Not quite done yet as you can see, but should give you an idea of how the reviews pages will be laid out. Kaz
