Now, I know this is probobly a stupid question and something you guys have all argued abotu before, but what is the best KOF game?
I have been playign Capcom fighting games since SF2 came out and was adicted to them. My favorite, Alpha 3, was great because of the storyline. I was talkign to some people and they said, "Hey, if you want story play KOF. "
So I want to play KOF, but there are so many of them! I'm confused! Which one should I start playing? Is it better to try and play the earlier ones first. And, important for me, which has a good storyline.
I think of myself as a vetran fighting game player, but I feel that KOF is the thing I'm missing. Sorry that I know nothing about this kind of stuff, but any help would be appreciated.

I personally find KOF 98 to be the best overall. But the other years are fun for me in other ways like how 2k2 has a better roster for me then 98 does although it is a much more broken game.

I also agree on 98, it seems to be a well balanced mix of cheap characters to keep it going ;D
Buy seriously kof 98 was the first kof I ever played (in real life) and found that it keeps true to it's originals.
2001 isn't bad either.

It's much easier to understand if you actually started playing them back in 1994... I'd recommend going back and playing KOF '94 onwards, but you will really need to like slightly more old school fighters to be able to appreciate those games now if you never tried them "back in the day". 94 and 95 do feel dated now, but for me personally they really are still great games and if it wasn't for them there would be no KOF 98 etc! As far as storyline goes, the whole Rugal/Orochi chapter between 94-97 is tops. When it comes to story KOF is also really good when it comes to relationships between many characters... so many rivalries and friendships going on, and that also means lots of fun intro before certain fights and things like that. If you really truly get into KOF then you start to appreciate things like that, but unless you have been a fan for some time it might not grab you straight away Kaz
