Quiet stereo sound

hi,

i'm pretty new to neo geo. i purchased my neo about a 1.5 yrs ago and have loved every minute of it.

my stuff is:

jap spec AES - #56066
phantom 1 convertor
memory card
two original large style controllers

metal slug 3 - jap home cart - 1st edition (very xe)
metal slug x - jap mvs cart
last blade 2 - jap home cart
pulstar - euro mvs cart
kof 98 - us mvs cart
gmotw - jap mvs cart
mutation nation - (i don't know what i was thinking)
nam 75 - ausy home cart
crossed swords - ausy home cart
last resort - ausy home cart

Anyway enough of the intro:)

I feel crappy asking a question as my first post but here i go.

I modified the AES with the typical stereo mod and even thou the sound quality is good without background noise and in stereo, it is really really quiet. With the mono cable my tv was on say 14 and was loud. now it is on 40 to be as loud. now at 40 its only half way up but like is this normal for the mod ?

Hmm, that's weird - I might be wrong but I don't think the sound should have gone that much lower. Would be best to ask someone who is good with that sort of thing... I'd recommend asking on the tech forum at neo-geo.com, someone like JM Kurtz would probably be able to tell you what the problem is.
