Anyone tracking this anime? Only two episodes have been subbed so far, but I am already loving it. The ninja theme brings back the good old Ninja Scroll days (the movie, not the tv series). The action scenes have been nicely animated, and take place against an authentic background. There is a dedicated lovestory to be found: the love between two people of rivaling clans. The first episode opens with a battle between a snake and a bird of prey. All very stylish, and there is a lot more behind it than you would think at first. The first episode seems to act as a showcase and throws everything in your face, whereas the second digs deeper into the story at hand. If you're looking for the official website, it's not hard: www.basilisk.jp/And oh Kaz, Hattori Hanzo is in there. ;D

Hmmm looks/sounds very interesting, I might have to look this one up. Who has subbed it so far?
I'm bored today, it's a bank holiday and I don't have a great deal to do, guess this will pass the time nicely! Thanks for the heads up man ;D
edit: watched the first one, very interested in it now, was pretty darn cool (and I loved the intro song). Gonna watch episode 2 in a sec!

You're falling behind, Kaz. ;D Episode 4 is already out for awhile too now. But yes, liking it a lot so far. Very interesting character design, and it is put to good use in the fights. I mean, nose hair? I already got hold of the op en ed themes. If anyone is interested in those, I can always upload them.

I've seen all the current episodes. The only thing that bugs me about this series is how the first episode ended and how it gives this massive forshadowing to how the series will end. If it really does end that way I'm going to be disappointed because I was able to figure it out so early.

Sweet, i'm always looking for a good and serious ninja or samurai anime. I'll definately check it out as soon as possible. So where is the best place to find the torrents for this show?

I find the animation simply beautiful. Even much better looking then Champloo yet i don't know if i like the actual story. Maybe i just don't get it. The line "Now each clan will fight each other to the death" or something then they give a Rep. from each clan a scroll and just like that they will have a battle royal for not much of a reason other then orders.
Can you fill me in more to the whole philosophy of it Flan? It all just seems a bit basic from what i can tell. I really wanna like this show.

Can you fill me in more to the whole philosophy of it Flan? It all just seems a bit basic from what i can tell. I really wanna like this show. There is a bit of history behind the "let's fight and kill each other" premise. At one point in history, the Shogun wanted to choose a successor for his title, but he had a hard time choosing between the two candidates at hand. The solution he came up with was to have the two clans (Kouga and Iga) that were represented by the candidates fight each other. A list was made, with ten names from each clan. The clan that would go through the other's list first, would see its candidate become the new Shogun. This clan battle didn't start because at the last moment a truce was achieved. A fragile truce. It didn't take much too hard to destabilise it, which is exactly what happens during the anime. And then it's time to try and kill the people that are on the list. The clan battles aren't the centerpiece though. The love between Gennosuke from Kouga and Oboro from Iga is. Since they are from opposing clans, you would say that their destiny is to kill each other. But maybe their love will bring the two clans together?

Thanks, i've watched the first five episodes and i got things down very well i think. Though their is some rediculous stuff that goes on in this anime it isn't done in a cheezy way so i'm really starting to like this one.

Though their is some rediculous stuff that goes on in this anime it isn't done in a cheezy way so i'm really starting to like this one. Examples? You mean like the attitude from the fat guy who wants to make out with one of the Iga women? I just finished watching episodes 6 and 7, and this story is really getting interesting. It's deception upon deception. One character may think he has everything under control, but then suddenly the tables are turned around completely. And then there is the "loves makes blind" theme, which is played out perfectly. Okoi is one hot anime chick too. I love it how they play her voluptuous shape out and make it seem as if she's just there waiting to be abused. But in Basilisk nothing is what it seems. btw, episode 5... when you watched that, you must have thought about the Ninja Scroll movie, right? I think there was some tribute paid here.
