I may be wrong, but afaik this is a dream match... the *proper* KOF 2004 will be coming out later this year, whereas this is scheduled for May... unless someone knows better?

Oh, here's a very lazy copy/paste from the news article I posted on the site

Details are still a little scarce on this one, but from what I know this is NOT the true KOF 2004 game, but a dream match title (ala 98/2002) that will feature many characters from the series... perhaps even all of the ones from past games, seeing as they don't have the same memory restraints they had with Neo Geo carts anymore. It's probably unlikely to be like that, but it would be cool.

It looks like the characters are not fully redrawn, but I'm sure that they will have been cleaned up a bit and will hopefully have some more animation. It does look like this is a standard 3 on 3 game instead of the tag format of KOF 2003, but one thing that people have noticed is that the "just defended" technique from MotW seems to be in the game; judging by the screenshot above with Clark anyway.

Thoughts so far? The backgrounds look very nice, but they are a little empty looking, like the ones in SNK Vs Capcom, but It'll be interesting to see them in motion when the game is completed. I like the artwork and vs screen a lot though, but I wonder what artist did the work on this game, as it definitely doesn't look like it is Falcoon. A few people have speculated that it could be Range Murata's work - the same person who worked on Matrimelee. The style does look a little similar...

Remember though, that this game is most likely a stop gap before the REAL next chapter in the series is released. These are also probably not completed pictures, so the final game may look different. This will hopefully be a fun game to play for a while as we wait for the next proper game, and with any luck that will indeed feature redrawn sprites etc. I'd be quite disappointed if it didn't to be honest...

I see Saisyu, and I see new face team. I think thats almost evidence enough for a dreammatch. (Or perhaps they are clones )

Looks like the same old character sprites, combined with 3D backgrounds. I hope we see the return of some old favorites, like Geese, Krauser, Mr Big, Eiji. Personally I've seen enough of Chris.

Ditto for the old favourites, especially Eiji. If they make this a KOF with EVERY character ever in the series included then it would be well worth it. I doubt that's gonna happen, but I'd be very happy to see Eiji and the others back, and seeing Shermie again is never a bad thing

I'm noy 100% convinced these backgrounds *are* 3D... we'll know soon enough anyway.

I think this could well be the case. What better way to convert the multitudes of SNKKOF fans to Sammy-Atomiswave fans than to give them every fans dream? Certainly the hardware would support it.

I have the feeling, at the very least, that this KOF is going to have more characters than the standard 40some.

WTF kind of lazy garbage is this I was already kind of worried when i read that interview from an SNKP rep. talkin about "we just finished porting the 2k3 system to AW" I was thinking "port"... how bout they actually do some fuckin work. Seem's i was right to be skeptical, i think this is better then making them look all guilty gearish but atleast they should have made the sprites bigger and gave the characters some new clothes for christ sakes. All i can do is hope this isn't gonna be whats actually released as kof2004, how pathetic...

Bah, reused sprites, what a bad way to start the series on the atomiswave, this is bound to go down the drain and give SNK a bad rep from the start.
This is no way to make an entrance.

It is a dream match so there is still the possibility that the actual 2004 game will look better.

It seems to me that this will have a KOF99 evolution feel to it... nuthin bad about it though, but the lifebars kinda... eck..

to seiryu: it's better to start from scrap, this way, they could go improve themselves, rather than start from the best, then get worse thruout the years

yeah, seeing those old sprites on the atomiswave is a major dissapointment.
It gave me the same feeling i got from seeing a newre-used streetfighter over and over and over and over and over and over again.
