Hey guys, First let me say hi, I'm a newbie here & to Neo Geo gaming. Now the reason I'm here is to aks for some advice, I'm looking at buying my first Neo Geo & was wondering if its worth buying a CDZ? I've just seen one on Ebay with 9 games for £250 Buy It Now, is this a good price? Looking at Raven Games & Telegames it certainly seems it But what about the games for them are they as good as the Cartridge versions? also are there still CD games coming out? I see their still releasing Cartridge stuff. Sorry for the lengthy post & all the questions Thanks for any help. Neil

welcome to the forums mate...my name is Neil too...though everyone knows me as hullcityfcmad.the cd console isn't a bad price but if you get one the loading times of the games are pretty bad.where as the aes console have practically no loading times but the games cost a lot more, though in my opinion they are a lot more collectable....in the end it just depends on your budget!!! hullcityfcmad

Yeah it does depend on your budget. I'd personally suggest going for some kind of MVS (arcade) setup as the games are generally a lot cheaper on MVS than they are on home cart... these days you can get a home MVS setup too so there is no need to have a cabinet, you can just plug it into the TV. The CD and CDZ have their good points (CD quality audio for one), but the load times are horrendous on a lot of games, especially the newer ones like KOF 99. Also, they no longer make games for the CD system, so you won't be able to get anything newer than KOF '99. If you need any more advice let us know - but take a look at the hardware page on my site as there's a bit more info on there Welcome to the forums btw Kaz

Hi Neil,
I'm new to the forums as well. My name's Chris, but I go by B. Kai. I'm just now getting back into all things Neo Geo after about 8 years away.
I've had both the CD and home cart systems in the past (although I get by in arcades and Dreamcast these days). The CDZ is a great little system if you don't mind the wait (I didn't at the time), and the price you mention doesn't sound all that bad. Over the last few years the pricing on home carts has become pretty outrageous, so it's hard to recommend that route to anybody. But no new games for the CDZ makes that a pretty crummy choice too, I'd say.
Kaz, I just checked out your info about MVS, and I've got to say I'm convinced that it's an excellent option. Thanks very much for the info!

No probs - one other piece of info I need to add to that page is that you can also buy MVS board that have been modded to plug directly into your TV, so you don't need a supergun. I had a 4 slot version of one of those before I sold it a couple of months back.

Hi guys, Sorry for the delay in a reply, thanks for all the input though its appreciated. Unfortunatley I missed out on the CDZ I spent to long thinking about it There is a Top loader CD with 8 games on there now though for £220, is this one worth it? Link is cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2789355166&category=1247Is a CD based Neo really worht it the reason I'm thinking of it is because of the back catalogue of games available on ebay for less than £30 is amazing & more than I'd ever play Thanks for the Advice on an MVS thats a serious consideration now as well but how exactly do these systems work? what would I need? Thanks again for all the help again guys & hopefully next time I'm on here it'll be because I bought my Neo
