After watching the ova i tried to make myself enjoy the series but... It's a little to "immature/lame" for my liking but its not bad. I guess i'm not a "true" RK fan for feeling like that but i do respect the 4 part ova as the best anime film i've ever seen & thats enough for me.

Yeah, I guess it does depend on what sort of thing you like really, but I will say this much - the first 20 or so light hearted episodes kind of set up the middle part of the series which starts when Saitoh Hajime cames into it (the Shinsengumi guy Kenshin also fights in the ova). This part of the series is one of the best animes I have ever seen (especially the Kenshin vs Saitoh fight at the start of it) and is actually a lot darker than the rest of the series... but not *quite* as much as the ova. It's worth checking out imho... but I'd still recommend going through all the episodes before it if you can because otherwise its a little hard to get a feeling for the characters or really care about them at all. I wouldn't say the others are mindless, they've actually got a really solid story and a lot of things in them that you don't notice the first time round and need repeat viewings to appreciate them all. I also (sort of) grew to like OVA 5 and 6... but if you haven't seen all of six then you should watch till the end because what happens is probably not what you would expect Kaz

O and Supreme? do u still need to know the diference between Anime and Manga?

O and Supreme? do u still need to know the diference between Anime and Manga? I like the sadness and gore myself... I don't always like things to be happy like they are in the TV series (but I do love the series too of course). It had to be like that anyway to explain why Kenshin was on the path he was on by the time the TV series starts. If you think OVA 1 is too sad, watch the whole of OVA 2... (don't worry I won't spoil it) Kaz

Not all Anime has to be sunshine and buttercups ;D I'm not the type that likes to watch sad and extremely violent shows for the fun of it but when a film is done like that in an excellent and tasteful way then i appreciate it.
It was a bloody story but it's was a very "real" story, the time period kenshin lived in was nothing nice. Anyways, i have much respect for the prequel OVA's.

Yeah that's pretty much my outlook... it's always nice to watch some really dark depressing stuff from time to time anyway. Hell, even Trigun took a very depressing trip down sadness lane for a few episodes near the end... Kaz
