Hi guys, new to the forum today Ok, Here's my dilemma, I used to have a neogeo cd (Toploader) which i sold quite a few years back. Basically i'm thinking of buyin a new one and I can get one including every KOF game released (apart from 99) for £150 shipped from japan to the UK. I've got pics from a friend and the machine is MINT. box included as with all the games. Should I get it? I can't decide

Hey daaren, I think you misunderstand me, I'm not asking if the price is ok, just really asking your opinion on if it's still worth buying a neogeo CD.

I think that depends on why you would want it.
If you are a collector, and want to add this to your collection, then I'm sure the fact that the machine is mint, and the games are in boxes is worth the price.
If you want it in order to play KOF. I'm sure you could find this same equipment on ebay for less.
Keep in mind, the neoCD ports of neo games often have frames of animation cut out, and attrocious loading times. Would this beat competitively priced PSX ports? Or arcade perfect (much better than PSX with the ram cart) Saturn ports?
I think 150 is kinda much if you ask me.

yeh it is for collecting ;D I've got the games on other platforms already (mostly saturn & DC) so it would basically be a new toy Its the shipping that pushes it to £150, it'd be £105 otherwise. Hmm, I remember how much the loading spoilt the games but at the same time it was amazing. I loved the music on KOF95...much better than any other translation IMO

If its for collecting, then go for it! This seems to be a good find then. (also if the 150 includes shipping)
And once you get it... if you could rip some of the cdda remixed kof music tracks to mp3 for us...

Even as part of a collection, I still can't see how a £150 price tag can be justified. The Neo Geo CD in all it's guises is simply horible. If you want to collect, why not MVS?

Well i bought it anyway so it's too late. Even though the neo cd has its faults its still nice to have.
I got it for £120 with 2 pads, mint, boxed, and kof94,95,96,97,98 and i just bought 99 for £20 so I think i did alright.

About the neocd pads, they're awesome and I was considering buying some myself but I found out they wear out kind of fast. Heres a guide for fixing them if you ever have a problem with them. www.gamesx.com/controldata/neopadfix.htm

The NeoCD would be a great machine if it wasn't for the loadf times... I know it was a long time ago and it would have cost more, but why SNK only put in a single speed drive I'll never know. Even back then these kind of load times were unacceptable... you could almost go and make a coffee in between rounds of Last Blade 2 or KOF '99! Also, remember that you cannot get any games released after KOF 99 for the Neo CD - so no Garou, Metal Slug 3 etc etc. My advice - yeah the soundtracks are nice, but if you really want to own a system go for MVS... the games are still reasonably priced and you won't have to put up with horrible load times Kaz

I love SNK, but they are without doubt the worst console manufactorers with regards to detimental design faults. Both the AES and the Neo Geo CD were doomed to fail in the mass market before they had ever been released. I sometimes wonder if the companies stupidity is part of the reason we are all so fond of them.

There was nothing really wrong with the AES design, aside from the fact that some versions have poor video output unless you get them modded. If you mean the price of the carts etc, it wasn't really a problem as they only ever intended it to be a rental system... it just became so popular in Japan that they decided to start selling it too. It was marketed badly in the USA though, very badly. Just go check out some of the adverts from back in the day The CD system does suck though... if it wasn't for the load times it'd be great Kaz
