To be perfectly honest, neither port holds any appeal to me, but I am interested to know the reasoning behind the delay.

I'm ok because I have the Japanese versions, but it's sad for the people without a Japanese or modded system. What really sucks though is that this *might* be to do with Sony - they don't seem to be keen on having so called "dated" games released on the PS2, which could be a stumbling block for SNKP. I don't know if that is true for sure, but that is what I have heard from a number of people.

Sony want to appeal to the masses, and that means churning out pretty 3D games... I know they have a lot of dumbass rules (like in the past they actually STOPPED developers from putting 60hz options into their PAL games), and it is rumoured that they are trying to discourage developers from releasing 2D games, as mainstream gamers might see them and think they look crap... and I guess cos the Neo Geo ports are at a lower res they are even less keen on seeing them released. Don't quote me on this as it might not be true, but it's been talked about before... Kaz

Sony don't like the 60 Hz option as they prefer software to be PAL maximized.

Sony don't like the 60 Hz option as they prefer software to be PAL maximized. Nope - after speaking to one of the reps from Sony, they used to have a rule blocking developers from implementing 60hz in PSX games, because they didn't think enough TV's back then could support it and they thought that it might confuse a lot of dumb mainstream gamers. When the PS2 was released they removed this block because they agreed that the majority of sets around today do support it. They don't actively encourage developers to use it, but even people like Capcom have decided to start doing it, after the shitload of complaints they got. They got ripped apart in most of the trade mags a couple of years back after Devil may Cry came out and they relented. Yours truly actually wrote in to one of the trade mags, you can see the scan of the article I wrote here if you are interested www.neogeoforlife.com/mcvarticlebig.jpgCopy/paste into a new browser window or it wont work. But if a game is PAL optimized, then it doesn't need a 60 Hz option to get rid of hte black borders.

That's usually true if a game actually gets optimised properly, but it takes a lot more time to optimize a game than to just put a 60hz option in, which probably takes a few hours work at most. Most developers just want to see their games out the door asap so they can make money, so they never bother actually spending the time and money needed to optimize... so just adding a 60hz option is the best idea really imho. Also, it's not just borders... it's speed, which a lot of PAL games lack. Take Tekken tag PAL for instance Kaz

True, but nearly every game released for the PS2 runs at full speed and without boarders. I remember the dark days of the SNES when games would come out over here running 17% slower. Nasty.

Yeah I remember those times well You're right, I don't think it's too much of a problem now, but with the first batch of PS2 games it was... in fact it did carry on for quite a while until people actually complained. Onimusha looked like crap, Tekken Tag ran so slow it was like being in the Matrix, Devil may Cry had horrible borders etc etc. Kaz

There have been no PAL PS2 games with the dreaded Big Black Boarders for at least two years now though. And talk about selective memory: I really enjoyed Onimusha and had totally forgotten it had them. In fact, I didn't notice them at all when first playing, it was only after a couple of days they became apparent. Pity the same can't be said for DMC.
