I just have to give my vote for '98 as well. I have played it most from all the KoF's, but I never seem to get tired of it... Once you start playing, it's hard to stop until you've beaten Rugal in the end. It's a true work of art!
I still have to argee with all of you and leave the door open for KoF 2003 though... It has some quite radical gameplay changes and I'm not sure if I'm going to like them. I'm most certainly hoping for the best in the light of the recent news...

^ Definately, well atleast we know which kof rules them all... (excluding kof2k3 cause hardly any of us have played it) Now that we got that outta the way..... I WANNA PLAY KOF2003 NOW DAMMIT!!!

I voted for KoF99, cause it looks really sweet. Although there are also a few negative Things about KoF98 and 99! In 99 it´s mainly of course the Story, the crappy Charas such as Bao or Xiangfei (never really liked her)! Positive: Graphics, new cool Chars (K´, Jhun), Backgrounds, new cool Clothes for Ralf, Kyo, Clark, Chin, Athena.....!! For 98, it´s a pity that it was a Dreammatch, with a cool Story it would have been much better! The Graphics are weak okay at least not as good in 99!! Positive: best balanced KoF! Many Chars (Yamazaki, Billy, New Face....), overall very good! I might have left several things, but I want you to understand my Vote!! ;D |

I do like the artwork from the cutscenes though. Very nice IMO.

I gotta say, I dont think that anything will ever replace KOF 98 as the most loved game in the series, no matter how good any of the future sequels turn out to be. Just one of those things I guess...

Yeah, there's something a little bit special about 98 ... but I voted for 2001 ... the striker system is better implemented than in 99 or 2000 and offers nice contrast to the gameplay of 98. I don't really like 2002 too much, it feels like deja vu when I play it, an inferior 98.
I reckon 2003 could be the best of the lot, what with the tag system, although some rumblings about game balancing (more specifically Duolon (sic?) and Malin) have me a little concerned.
