I've been playing a lot of Metal Slug lately, and I was thinking about what I'd personally like to see them do with the next one, and I had an idea. I've been saying for ages that it would be cool if they actually made the characters play differently to each other, like having one character who is really fast, another who is slower but more powerful etc etc, but I think they should maybe do this and take it one step further. How about making it so that you can tag one of the other characters in during gameplay if you need their particular skill at a certain part. They could maybe do it so that you pick two characters at the start to make your ideal team or something. This would probably take a lot of work to balance the game out properly, but I think if it was done properly then it would really add a whole new dimension to the gameplay, and make it even more skillful... as you would need to learn how to tag the other character in at the right time. Now SNKP has more money to throw around, I think they should maybe use it to hire back some of the old MS staff that came from Nazca if they can (afaik they work somewhere else now), they would probably be capable of pulling something like this off properly  Anyway, what would you like to see in the next game? Yup, the different character styles is what pops to mind for everyone, i guess. It really would give the game a whole new depth and longer gameplay value. Would be nice to see different weapons stronger with different characters. For instance, the rockedlauncher and enemy chaser would be a whole lot heavier and awesomelooking when Tarma plays with it compared to others. And on the other hand Fio could have a souped up laserrifle that is more powerfull when she plays with it compared to the others. And more of those type of trhings...characters that react differently to different type of the weapons.
Same could go for the slugs. Marco would be awesome better in the submarine, while Eri is more powerfull to use in the airplane and helicopter, Fio would on the other hand be far superior in the animal slugs(camel,Elephant,etc)...and tarma could be better using those heavy armor slugs and the origina slug. ;D

If they added in a tag feature like I said as well, having the characters differ in the ways you mentioned would enhance that even more. Hell, Shock Troopers 1 had a tag mode didn't it? Kaz

MS5 already did a few of the things I'd want to see in a new slug game, namely a new vehicle, new enemies, new bosses, less rehashed levels. Other then that I'd probably like a much wider selection of new weapons while keeping the old and maybe a signature attack or grenade(like in Shock Troopers) for each character.

Since the old Metal Slug games are sometimes inspired by movies such as Rambo or other war movies or even Independence Day I really would like to see a new inspiration of the Z movies (don't how you call this type of movies in english). I think a graveyard mission fighting ghouls and zombies would be great, especially with a multi-layered maze effect (inspiration: Night of the living Dead). A mission in a supermarket/shopping mall would be great too and developpers could make a lot of funny stuff like Marco blasting Capcom slots in the arcades (hehe). I think new power ups would be dope such as a power up that would transform you (like food makes you get fat in the older games) i.e. in a Leatherface-like body with a mask and chainsaw (think of Texas Chainsaw Massacre) for a little portion of time.
New weapons I would like :
-chainsaw -uzi (ok double machine gun is close to a uzi) in a drive-by section in an Impala shooting at gangstas in Compton Ave. -swiss army knife -harpoon (especially underwater) -stone thrower (again don't how the proper english name - a wooden "Y-shaped" weapon with rubber that throws little stones) -a kind of net that you can throw to stuck your opponent and then kill him (gladiator style) -boomerang (a mission in Australia would be so cool, kangaroos, aboriginals, dingos, crocodiles, razorbacks...) -flame thrower (the return of my favourite weapon, please mr SNKP) -the list goes on and on...
I think a mission in a total darkness would be dope too, with you wearing a helmet with a torch that will light up in front of you.
But basically a difference between the characters would be the best thing they could do with a new MS.
New slugs :
-open sleigh with dogs in a North Pole mission -BMX bike -all types of cars -ski (james bond-like mission) -delta plane -speed boat -train -new robot (that new one in MS5 is awesome) -caterpillar machine -digging machine (like in MS3, but with the power to actually dig holes) -caddy (see my shopping mall mission) -a new tank -...

LMAO, dude...there´s some hilarious ideas in there that would totally fit into the metal slug style. The graveyard thing has been done in MS3,remember when you turn into a bloodbarf tossing ghoul?  Shoppingmall would rock indeed, i dig the capcom blow up situation. I love the net idea a la gladiator style, that way you´d automaticly walk up to them for the closerange attack to finish them off. these slugs are hilararious. -ski (james bond-like mission) -open sleigh with dogs in a North Pole mission -BMX bike

I know that the whole zombie thing has already been done in MS3 but in the mission I've imagined there would be a lot more types of zombies (old zombies, baby zombies crawling...). The scenario would be : a mad scientist/Mordern/other evil madman has done nuclear experiments that have went totally wrong. A radioactive rain pours over a graveyard and wakes up the dead bodies (imagine cool lightning effects on the background with rain). You can also jump inside a grave for an underground alternative path where you fight skeletons, rats and ghosts... You could imagine that the rain affects your character so you need to hide under something to protect yourself and get a medication item in order not to become a zombie yourself. The boss would be the old graveyard keeper went mad in a huge machine he usually uses to dig the graves.
In the shopping mall mission you would be able to destroy all the shelves (MS5 lacks of the possibility to tear down walls, houses and stuff) and eat a lot of food of course. You would have a lot of different paths (elevators, stairways...) and the possibility to go in the shops (imagine yourself in Toys R Us fighting angry Teddybears and whuping asses of Barbie & Ken went nuts)...
A North Pole mission with a sleigh where you fight grunts on some snow-motorcycles. Another part of that stage would be blasting walruses (controlled by Mordern with a helmet) and polar bears. Then an ice wind blows and it's harder to walk and see because of the snow. Then there's the classical abandonned military base with frozen machines you can ride on after having melt the ice. You could also imagine an alternate path underwater (an eskimo comes and digs a hole in the ground in order to fish and you jumping in). When you're underwater you have a sort of timer and when you run short of time you die, so every now and then jump outside the water, drink a cup of coffee to warm you up. The enemies underwater could be killer whales (remember MSX), walruses, tons of little shrimps, grunts, submarines... A nice thing would be reaching the Titanic or another sunken ship or even entering an iceberg and fighting prehistoric animals stuck in the ice for ages...
damn there are infinite ways of doing a new MS that would rock !
wow, the automatic walk is a GREAT idea ! It kind of remembers me of Mortal Kombat : Come Herrrrrrrre!
PS- I apologize for my poor attempt to write in english, that would be easier in my mother tongue (french). Tell me if you guys don't understand what i mean...

All great idea's fellas, i like the shock troopers esque different for each character idea. I also would like the next MS to have a whole lot more different choices in paths, more hidden bosses, (Streets of Rage 3 owned in this area, i think snkp could take some pointers from konami to make the replay value higher) different character related endings and story (maybe like SS5) to make the game deeper/more memorable. Finally be around as lengthly as MS3, a standard was made with that game & i think snkp should strive to keep with it.

For sure, a slightly more story driven game would be awesome. It wouldn't have to be too in-depth, but just a few short cut scenes (ala SvC/MotW) would do wonders for the atmosphere of the game imho. Considering how well designed the characters and other sprites are, it'd be nice to know a little more about their background and storyline...
