I thought it was about time that I got round to writing up a set of rules/guidelines for this place. Our forum has been steadily growing since April and it has been a lot of fun, and while we never really have any major probs with it, it's best to have a set of rules just in case. This is a guide mainly for new members, but it's worth a read even for the forum veterans
Please let me know if you think anything at all should be changed/added, this is everything that I could think of off the top of my head! Thanks to the mods for pointing out a few things - and no thanks for me being an idiot and forgetting to post this (it's been sitiing in the mod forum for about a month now ). I am stickying this in all the forums, but all of them will be locked apart from this one (in the Neo Geo section), so if you want to reply, feel free to do so in *this* thread!
General Forum Rules:
---------------------------
1. Politeness - Everyone on our forum (including the mods) are all pretty laid back and we don't tend to flame each other endlessly like on certain other forums, and we want to keep it that way. Please don't troll other people posts and flame needlessly, and if you need some help with a problem, a little politeness goes a long way and people will be more likely to help you.
2. Asking for help - If you need help with something, whether it is a problem with an emulator or the real Neo Geo system, please make sure to post it in the correct forum section (see rule 7), and make sure that you explain your problem properly. Far too often people will ask an emulation problem and just say "ok I loaded up Kawaks and it doesn't work, what's wrong with it?". If you dont give enough info, then no-one will be able to help you and your question is unlikely to be answered.
3. Warez - Although we aren't very strict with most things at all, posting of warez will not be tolerated. This includes pirated ISO's for any system and also roms. Some may think we are being mean by not letting people post this kind of thing, the main problem is that it is ILLEGAL, and if we were to let people post warez then we'd end up getting shut down and that would not benefit anybody. Besides, if you can, you really should buy as much stuff as you can afford (especially with SNK stuff), as otherwise the company that makes your favourite games will go bust and you will end up losing out in the long run. I don't have a problem with people discussing emulation of any games in the forum, but once again - *NO* rom links please, under any circumstances. Also, DO NOT request for anyone to post or send you any illegal material.
4. Nick Changing - I'm not too bothered about people changing their nicknames now and again (Proboards lets you change the posting name of your account), but I'd prefer it if people didn't do it too often. This rule isn't set in stone, but please remember that it could confuse people if you keep changing your nicks every five seconds.
5. Signature image size - You are more than welcome to have an image in your signature, but please make sure that image is not too big, in terms of both physical image size and file size. While huge sigs might not be too bad for those of running a PC at a reasonably high res and with a broadband connection, imagine what it is like for someone forced to use 800x600 and on a 56k modem . So, although I don't have any set size for images, please just make sure that they aren't too big and that they won't cause major headaches for anyone
6. *NO* Pr0n!!! - While I am the first to admit that this sucks (LOL!!!!), we can't have anyone posting any images with nudity in them. This includes normal porn and hentai. If we do, then proboards will own my ass, and also anyone viewing the forum at work/school could get owned by their boss/teacher . So, no putting this kind of thing in your posts, or using any as your signature or avatar image.
7. Posting in the correct section - Although this isn't a major problem, please make sure that any threads you post go in the correct forum section. If they are posted in the wrong place then a mod will probably move it - but please, post them in correct forum section and you will probably get a reply quicker.
8. Spamming - There isn't a limit to how many posts you can make every day or anything like that, but please be considerate of other forum members. Posting multiple forum threads for no real reason is not cool, and neither is abuse of the "Create Poll" option or spamming somebody via private message. Have a look at the post that seiryu made a while back as he made some very good points there:

9. Emu Help - Remember that if you are using emulators, they are free and the emu authors do not charge for their hard work. Using them is a privilege and NOT a right, so if you need help with getting one to work, feel free to ask on the forum, but do it sensibly. Myself and others do our best to help, but if you are impatient or start demanding that someone answers then people are not going to be likely to help you at all.

Here's a few handy hints that may help you:
1. Signing in problems - Some people have had problems with staying signed in, and this can be down to a couple of things. First off, make sure that your browser accepts cookies, otherwise you will keep getting logged out. You also need to make sure that your firewall isn't blocking cookies from the forum, as that caused me a few problems when I setup a new firewall on my PC.
One other thing that can be a hassle is if you use the www.neogeoforlife.co.uk URL to access the forum. If you use that URL and you try to login using the box on the main page of the forum, you will get logged out for some strange reason. I am trying to solve this, but in the meantime, please click "login" first and then enter your details there, or visit the site using one of the other URL's listed above.
2. Posting images - If you want to post images on the forum, or if you want to upload your own avatar/signature image, you will need to get some webspace to put it on. I personally use the free webspace that my ISP provides me with, but if your ISP doesn't give you any space then you can sign up for a free account from one of the many providers on the 'net. You will need to make sure that their server supports remote linking to images however (meaning that you are linking to an image from a place other than where the pics are located), because otherwise they will not work. Here's a list of ones that do (thanks flan_man):
www.photobucket.com
www.digikitten.com
www.freewebs.com
www.myimgs.com
www.inkfrog.com
www.geocities.com
www.lycos.co.uk
Please feel free to post about other good webspace providers if you know any!
