I just got this on DVD (saw it the cinema ages ago and loved it). Anyone else seen this film? If not, and you are a fan of stuff like Lock Stock/Snatch, then I can't recommend it enough! It's a similar type of film, only slightly more mature/serious... absolutely essential though imho.
I'm interested in reading the book now... it's supposed to be really good.

I'd say that I have seen it one and a half times... once at the cinema, then half when I watched it with you and Ant, but I think we were all too pissed for you two to remember it properly And oh yeah... Sienna Miller is in it... and she is lovely ;D Kaz

I saw this film way before the dvd and yes it's a good film. Adds a new approach to the lock stock style of film making.

Definitely. I had advance tickets to see this at the cinema and at the time didn't even have a clue of what the film was about, but I was so glad that I bothered going. Definitely one of the best Brit films of last year... probably second only to Shaun of the Dead Kaz

The film "lock stock and 2 smoking barrels" was such a success that it almost redefined the gangster film genre in the way it was done as in recording and film effects, (usually British ), especially the camerawork and general style in how it was done. It was unlike any other gangster film and when a winning formula appears it gets used by other producers. Layer cake is another one of the more succesful films of this type and I can only hope this genre doesn't get exploited and turn for the worse. Then again, these are just MY words

There's other similar films made in the UK that came out since Lock Stock, but none as good (hell I can't even remember most of the names ). Layer Cake is actually directed by the producer of Lock Stock/Snatch btw, and I did hear that Guy Ritchie was originally going to do it but he pulled out due to other commitments. buddha: you havent seen snatch or lock stock? It's well worth it, but I must admit that those films are mainly enjoyed by English people... other audiences worldwide might not get them... a bit like how some westerners have a hard time understanding eastern films like Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle, or indeed any foreign films etc etc. Give em a try anyway! Another good good UK gangsta flick is.....in my opinion......'Love,Honour and Obey'...what do you guys think?? All the characters names in the film are the names of the actors playing them, which I thought was a good touch!! Have only heard good stuff about 'Layer Cake' and think I will be seeing it soon ....
