I've not been around much again cos my damn PC seems to be going mental again. I recently re-installed windows cos I thought that was the problem, but it seems it is going back to doing what it did before I upgraded to a new motherboard and gfx card (motherboard seemed to be the prob), and it has been ok up until recently. It just keeps slowing down or locking up for no reason... I just need to get to the bottom of the problem before it sends me mad!!! The main problem is that I'm about ready to get the site online, but I can't cos of the PC not working properly. I got it working again for now so I'll try to carry on and get things done, but if it starts locking up again I'll just have to wait till some time in the week after I hopefulyl get it fixed  Kaz

That is a weird one.
Have you looked at your motherboard to see if there is any physical reason for it be playing up?
Too many high resource draining apps?
Maybe there is a programme "calling home" whenever it can that uses all resources and bandwidth.
We'll never know.

Tis a brand new motherboard and I'm having the same prob I had before I upgraded to this one, so there should be no physical reason. The only thing I can think of is a problem with memory, but I think we checked that before. Also windows has just been re-installed so the only thing I got on here now is anti virus/firewall software and nothing else really. I've had the PC on for the past couple of hours and no lockups yet, it would be nice if it stayed this way but there obviously must be something wrong somewhere... just a case of finding it, but it aint easy. Maybe it could be faulty ram?
Also I once had a problem the power supply was faulty and eventually fudged my compootar.
Look into that maybe.
Otherwise maybe have a look at the bios and see if any settings are disabled etc.

Bios I dunno about, but the PSU is brand new. I'll have to check the ram somehow... don't spose there is any kind of program that can check ram is there? I may just have to swap out the sticks or something.

Hey Kaz ;D This could definitly be a ram problem ..First thing I would do is make sure to get the latest Bios from youre mobo manufacturer and see how it acts afterward. Try moving the ram to a different slot , naturally you should use which ever is designated as slot #1 since it will have the fastest pipe to the chipset. I know there are some ram diagnostic programs out but I havent used any in soo long that I cant remember what they are... I will look around a bit and see if I can find a decent one. What is the board ? who makes the ram ? There are some known compatibility issues using Kingston ram on certain chipsets { mostly on ECS boards } If you are running more than 1 stick of ram I would remove them all and run 1 single stick in slot 1 and see how it goes. You may just want to grab a cheap Simm and see if its the same... Also take a look around and see if any programs you run conflict with others you may be using... Most likely its going to be some kind of software hoseing up youre registry or eating ram and not giving it back, this can be pretty common even with XP Pro ... which you should definitly run Let me know what the board and ram is ;D Bye the way youre PII will be on the way in the morning ...great stability for a server bye the way

I'll mess with the RAM, but if you can find out about some sort of diagnostic tool that might help. My boards a Gigabyte one, will have to check exactly which one it is. Don't think it is Kingston RAM, but again I'm gonna have to check Don't think it is a software issue, cos I've only just re-installed windows... Cheers man! Cos I've not been online much I didn't get the chance to mention that the marquee arrived, thanks a lot for that, it's very very cool indeed! Kaz
