I really don't have a clue of it's release date (i'm not that good with japanese) But it's really going out in Japan You can check out the theatrical trailer at apple.jp Here 's the link www.apple.jp/quicktime/trailers/toei/devilman_large.htmlI really can't wait to see this!!! I'm an all out Go Nagai fan, morever for Devilman, from the 5 mangas original story to the 2 OVA episodes and the anime movie Amon, The apocalyspe of devilman(I even got tattooed the 2 wing marks on each shoulder like Akira Fudomei in human form)

I like the Devilman OVAs, dunno why, but I like them! Probably in much the same way that I like Fist of the Northstar! I'm always apprehensive about film adaptations of anime - Guyver and Crying Freeman being two examples.

The only i've seen OVA was Amon : The Apocalypse Of Devilman. I thought it was pretty dramatic OVA.
I've seen some tapes of Violent Jack too. Damn that shit is brutal. ;D
Looking forward to the movie, it's pretty good from what i've seen.

I couldn't get the trailer to play for some weird reason, but I had no idea a live action movie was coming out. I'll be looking forward to it a LOT anyway, thanks for posting about it ;D
I agree with Yeton about live action movies, but the two you mentioned were both US made ones not Japanese, and we know how wrong Hollywood directors usually get it with manga/anime/video game to movie adaptations. But on the other hand Crying Freeman wasn't *that* bad at all if you ask me, even if it wasn't a good representation of the manga/anime.

Devilman isn't so soft as it looks. The anime/OVA's are very violent and gory, and i'm not talking about "just blood", but kinda Fist Of The North style gore. You could consider Devilman as one of the most violent animation series.

The story was originally by Go Nagai, I think. The plot varies a little depending on the version you watch, I believe, but the OVAs involve a kid who is possessed by a demon, and from then on can control the demon's powers. He can absorb the powers of every resultant demon he fights and defeats (hmm ... intersting RPG/Pokemon-esque style powering up possibilities in a videogame, perhaps?). This, of course, involves lots of gratuitous violence, loads of ripping flesh and the like. His ultimate goal, I think, was to fight Satan himself!

(cue many people getting glass bottled, and then demons popping up all over the place... there was some pretty bloodthirsty stuff in Devilman yeah Buddha: this is a live action... but it was an anime from a good few years back. It ruled imho Kaz
