This is probably the most bizarre thread I've ever posted (lol), but bear with me. I was wondering if any of you guys have experienced what is referred to as "REM sleep paralysis". What I mean by this is that you wake up and maybe even open your eyes, but the rest of your body is still in a dream state, so even though you are half awake, your body is totally paralysed and you can't move. This has happened to me a few times recently and it's really bizarre and funky... happened to me the other night in fact. I had a really weird dream where I fell over and that woke me up - but even though I had opened my eyes and could see my room, I was actually still dreaming and I couldn't move my body at all. Also, cos I was still asleep I was kinda hallucinating and seeing things that weren't there for a few seconds. Before you all go thinking that I've been taking some kinda messed up drugs, I've been assured that this is totally normal and happens to a lot of people and I read a few links about it (like this one: www.dreamdoctor.com/better/paralysis/intruder.shtml). When it happens I actually think it's kinda funny, but it is weird when you wake up and think that you can't move and are unable to breath (even though in reality you probably are breathing just fine). Anyway, just wondering if any of you have ever experienced this or if you have any strange/fun dreams you wanna share? Can't you tell I'm bored? ;D Kaz

.......no....no wait...hold it. Eh....sorry man, i misread the stuff. nope...no REM sleep here, eh.....it was just that my girlfriends tie me down sometimes on the bed when we have sex.....totally unable to move there man. Really crazy....but i kinda know what you mean except the stuff that i was halucinating really was there in the room. Eh......does that count as REM also.

LOL but eh that doesn't really count for REM. I've had that sometimes. It was like I fell over in a dream, and I woke up like "SHIT!!!" and jumped. It felt almost real, but it must've been the shock. After that, I went back to sleep, don't know if my body was paralysed though.

Yeah same here. Typically is just sleep walk with my eyes closed or I just dream in bed, but there was this one time where I got out of bed, walked down the stairs and sat on the floor of my living room and stared at it for awhile. I don't remember what happened then but my parents said I went back upstairs.

*reads replies about moving your eyeballs but being able to move your body, halucinating shit, watching your livingroom floor, waking up screaming, jumping up, falling but not really really falling, parents spotting their son walking back to his bed.*................and you guys think I am weird.

LMFAO well yeah it's definitely weird that you say you can't move when your GFs tie you to the bed. Oh man, I wont look at you in the same way again. Seiryu the-man-who-cant-move-because-he's-tied-to-a-bed.

I used to keep a fan next to my bed, and keep it turned on during the warmer summer nights. Problem was my dad didn't like this at all, because he was afraid the thing might overheat and cause a fire while all of us were asleep. I didn't mind though, I just turned it off whenever I heard him coming towards my room. It wasn't before long that I had those dreams where I heard him coming upstairs, and I tried to turn the fan off desperately, but I couldn't. Was it because I woke up without being able to move, or was it a complete dream? I don't remember. It doesn't matter anymore either, since I don't have to worry about this since I moved out. It does say something about what can trigger states like this though.

Not like that. But sometimes I am half asleep and half awake. I see everything what happens, but I still may talk and realising that it's just a dream. But still I think that the person im the dream hears what I'm saying an dI keep going. It feels really stupid. But I don't remember being paralyzed.

Well, related to this: sometimes women talk to me, and I reply to their questions with a confirmation if needed, but it's like it's happening in a dream, with me not being in control. The essence of what they are telling doesn't come through to me. I am awake, but yet it is as if I am asleep. In reality, I cannot listen to them because I am thinking of or doing more interesting things. My mind cannot cope with both at the same moment and automatically switches its full attention to what seems to be the most interesting (videogames, thinking of big boobs...). Should they ask me the next day what the conversation was all about, I would have to improvise or change the subject immediately.
Oh wait... this is the life-preserving gift that was handed to most men... I pity those who don't have it ;D

actually, that dream/sleep paralysis thing is FATAL if your condition gets serious, you can DIE from it (belive me, my dad is a doctor), and a famous actor in our country DIED from this sleep paralysis thing... i advice people with asthma or heart problems to be cautious of this, it can severly prevent you from breathing propely and stuff.... a good way to "WAKE UP" from this sleep paralysis is to BITE your tounge until you wake up (that's what i do) well that is all

- ...not sleep immediately while exhausted (rest first for a while before sleeping)
- ...not sleep with your hair wet
well that's what i've heard, though i'm not sure about the wet hair thing

Wow... fatal... Hehe, I don't think this thing I have had is all that serious, and most people tend to say that it isn't, but I suppose I can mention it the next time I go to see the doctor Kaz
