Seeing as we had a thread for the scariest game ever (which Silent Hill wins hands down imho , I thought we may as well do one for the scariest movie ever. Here's my favourites off the top of my head: The Ring (Japanese version "Ringu", not the lame US one)This one just plain freaks me out... very eery, and even worse when one of your relatives decided to ring your mobile right after you finish watching the damn thing late at night HalloweenThe original and by far the best! The theme tune alone makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up... best theme music ever. Evil Dead 1By the time Army of Darkness came out, this series had pretty gone into full on comedy mode (which was still great), but the first Evil Dead was actually quite creepy. Will we ever forget the infamous "tree scene"? SignsOK, I know many people might not consider this *that* scary, but something about this film definitely creeps me out. I really like the direction of it (Shymalan kicks ass) and the acting is great, which draws you into the plot. I can genuinely say that after watching this movie late at night I always end up feeling on edge for a while afterwards. Stephen Kings ITOk this film isn't even scary really, but I FUCKING HATE Clowns. That's all I have to say There are others, but that's all I can think of right now. What about you guys? Kaz

Seeing as we had a thread for the scariest game ever (which Silent Hill wins hands down imho) Really? Damn, i thought my britney entry game would tip that.... But scariest movies. Alien and Aliens. Not really horors but the best nerve breakers ever made. Nothing can top the first time you see alien and aliens. The creatures and the unexpected have you on the tip of your seat almost barfing from suspence from the beginning til the end. Masterpieces.

Hey, Kaz made a scary movie topic. I never would have thought ;D
Ok, here are some of my favorite scary movies:
The Thing
Carpenter's classic. The creepy soundtrack, and the setting (a polar base with small corridors) just gives me the creeps. Even by today's standards I think the effects are great.
Aliens
Ok, when I watch it nowadays it's more for sheer fun, watching all of those aliens being blasted away. At the time (I was 12 when I first watched it) it really freaked me out though. I could barely sleep for almost a week.
Event Horizon
Sci-fi setting. The director used creepy colors (sick green) and it worked for me. A couple of scenes are kept unclear on purpose. A good thing too, they are scary enough as it is.

28 Days Later
Friggin scared the crap out of me. Also used that really dark kind of distorted camera like in SH3. Defenitly reminded me of RE2 and 3 too.
House on Haunted Hill
It was stupid but their were a few moments that were pretty scary like when one of the characters points her camera at an empty surgical bed and sees someone getting tortured by surgons through the camera.

28 Days LaterFriggin scared the crap out of me. Also used that really dark kind of distorted camera like in SH3. Defenitly reminded me of RE2 and 3 too. Oh yes, that one definitely had its moments. Like when they reduce the number of frames in a couple of the action scenes. There's this zombie (well, if you can call the infected peeps in the movie zombies) running towards the camera. One moment it's still far away, and then suddenly it's up close. Boo. I also liked the beginning, with the empty streets in London (did I recognise Picadilly Circus?). Those must have been very hard to vacate.

Alien and AliensMan, I forgot about those ones... awesome films, especially the 2nd one! Think I might have to go see Alien at the cinema soon. The ThingAnother classic, had forgotten about that one too... 28 Days LaterGood movie, I went to see this at a special preview before it came out. I enjoyed it although I thought it got a bit stale near the end. The zombies were very scary though... fast and powerful unlike the "traditional zombie". There's a few mistakes at the start by the way - apparently there is one part where you can see London buses going over a bridge a few miles away in the background, and I also noticed one part where there was a guy walking around in the background who looked like he was doing his shopping Event HorizonPretty good film, although I wouldn't say it scared me really. Same guy who directed Resident Evil and the 1st MK movie did this, and now he is working on Aliens Vs Predator. I just hope he does a good job of it Kaz

The Ring rules. I've seen Ring 1, Ring 2, and Ring 0. All the Japanese ones. I agree, The Ring from the US was pretty lame, but the special effects made it ok for me. Well the scariest movie ever for me must be Ju-on. A Japanese movie about some spirit. It's scary as HELL

I have to say Sci-Fi movies have never really been scarry to me at all, maybe a quick jump now and then when they use those type of tactics for a cheap scare ,but never actually scarry in the sense that I am going to think about the movie after I have seen it and be freaked out. For that It has to be something that could potentially happen to one of us and would generally be something spun off of a real event. So far in my entire life only one movie has actually scared the hell out of me for many years after watching it. The Amityville Horror , my mom took me to see it when it first released and it genuinly scared the hell out of me for many months afterward in my sleep ;D Even now every time I watch the movie it sends shivers up my spine , great film bye the way , one of the few truely horrifying movies ever made. Bye the way I went and saw Alien this afternoon all remastered in a very kick ass AMC theatre ,they even have convex screens That movie kicks soo much ass in the theatre that now when I pop the DVD in I will be dissapointed with the presentation The first movies are a must own for any DVD collection Event Horizon is definitly a very good creepy movie and definitly worth owning , one of Fishburns better movies for sure. I watch the DVD now and then and enjoy the movie every time ,I thought Sam Neil was great in this movie too. Prince of Darkness is a pretty freaky movie overall and great to view in a large dark room in the early morning hours when you can hear a pin drop ;D check that out if you havent seen it ,good flick ! John Carpenter is truely the master when it comes to ultra cheesey horror , They Live has to be one of the most fun and conceptually intriging movies I have ever watched.

11 posts and still nobody mentions Exorcist? that and The Ring movies(Japanese) are the horror movies that were the creepiest for me! Lol I was actually bored as hell with the Exorcist the first time I saw it ,its still boring to this day ,Im not sure why people find that movie scarry ? I can see how it would disturb some people that may be religious though. Since In my opinion religion is the biggest sham in the history of man Demonic Possesion really has no effect on me from a spooky stand point I find things like that intriguing much like what happens to us after we die. OK back on topic , while I didnt find the Omen movies scarry at all ,they are some of the best movies I think I have ever seen ,there really isnt a bad one in the bunch
