This is a subject that is open for debate. Some people don't care at all where they play their games, but others do. I personally cannot get into playing any game seriously on an emulator, whereas I can spend hours playing games on the real system. Even playing Neo stuff on a TV using Kawa-X for the Xbox just doesn't feel the same to me. As for whether the graphics look better on the real system, I think they do a little. They tend to look REALLY pixellated on a PC monitor, and although there are different video filters to use that make it look a little better, I still prefer the output on the real system. 2. Depends on how what skills you have with soldering/electronics. If you are fairly competent then you could easily put together a supergun, as itisn't too hard. If you are a complete novice like myself then you would be better off buying one... but if you can make one you'll save yourself a LOT of money 3. I do say this a lot, but the best place for info on building a supergun would be the tech support forum at www.neo-geo.com . A lot of people there have built their own superguns so they have a lot of experience. Take a look at the posts on that forum, and if you need some help then ask there, as someone should be able to give you some good advice. Before you buy one, the main questions you should ask yourself is how serious are you about playing Neo Geo stuff, and much money are you willing to spend on it. Although MVS is far cheaper and better for gamers than the home cart stuff, it can still be a very expensive game to get into. For me it was well worth it and I definitely don't regret it, but this might not be the case for all other people. Hope that helps - if you need anything else then let us know and we'll do what we can Kaz

Kaz summed it up pretty nicely.
MVS is better than an emulator for the same reason a real kidney is better than a plastic one. They might look similar, but only one of them really works.
*Waits for applause to die down for his excellent analogy*
Emulators may have pulled you into the neo scene, but you'll never really experience it without owning one. There is just something about that exclusivity that makes you feel great. There is no bad blood on these forums for those who use emulators, but there is always respect for those who contribute to the real thing.
As for actually getting into the scene, a supergun may be worth it if you're in Europe. If you're in the US you have a couple of options that may actually save you a little bit of money (European superguns are much cheaper because of the power supply and video output). I have a cabinet as does Candycab, and if you get a good deal on one I would certainly suggest going that route. Seiryu is in the EU and I think has a home system, and if you want to go MVS then you can always get a phantom-1 as the newest version seems very reliable. Mysteriozone has a very interesting MVS set-up AND I think he has a home system, too. He's in the US. Just a few ideas to toss around.
Oh and welcome to the forums.

Welcome to the forums! In my case I'm going to order what's called a neogeo silver system(professionally modded by !Arcade! with s video, stereo, and debug bios) and one of the phantom 1 converters that Boriqua mentioned. I like to just have a simple console setup with some nice extras but also not pay a fortune for aes carts so I stick to the mvs carts. I would not recommend this though unless you've got some major cash to burn since a silver system and the converter will go for around $800. I would however stick to mvs since they are easily much cheaper then aes carts.

There are a few people at the neo forums that will build you one , overall they are incredibly easy to build and fairly cheap as well.
