I remember back when the forum first opened, seiryu used to do a thread where he'd post some game music for download and discussion... so I thought for a bit of fun I'd try the idea again. I'll set the ball rolling with one of my favourite soundtracks of all time: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Here's a download link for my favourite track from the OST: OST Track 25. 'The Tragic Prince'Every so often I'll upload a new one from various games if people are interested - if anyone else has some webspace then feel free to post a couple of your own Kaz

I've got the my favourite game theme, Pitfall 2: The Lost Caverns recorded off my arcade, but I need to find a host. Should be able to get it up soon.
edit: Okay, I got it up: [ftp]http://www.savefile.com/files3.php?fid=7372356[/ftp] This should work.
One of the happier arcade songs out there, I think it really fits the mood of the game.

That's cool, but having never played the game though I can't really place it. Very old-school and as you say "happy" Kaz

Here's a screenshot, it's the one in the background. img236.imageshack.us/img236/4504/arcadelaunch8ot.jpgIf your interested you could get the rom. Also, if your interested I've got a few more (paperboy, moon patrol etc.) I kind of record them for fun. I did a bit of a pattern in the moon patrol one. I have been meaning to add a section to my website with music. Enough with the unorganized sentences! -Drew

A bit of a nostalgia trip with the castlevania track!
If great game soundtracks are being discussed then i guess it's only a matter of time before someone mentions the Final Fantasy 7 soundtrack. I played it recently and found myself humming to tunes that i thought i'd forgotten!
As for the Pitfall tune, I haven't heard such a happy game ditty in ages. Nice!

I'll set the ball rolling with one of my favourite soundtracks of all time: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Here's a download link for my favourite track from the OST: Kaz o....m.....g.... that soundtrack was sexual!!! though "prayer" and "crystal teardrop" are probably my favourite tracks off it. me too! if you like that, you might want to check out an album called "mi media naraja" by labradford . its an amazing album in its own right, but the song "wr" does sound quite final fantasy vii esque. for a sample, clicky here.

final fantasy music is overrated, sure, Nobou Uematsu is a GREAT composed, but all this Neo-Classical is nothing but repetitive and forgettable (mind you, i too admire classical music)... but i agree, FF7 music was prolly the height of FF music, FF8, following next.
I'll Try to upload some REZ music next time, but mind you, you wont "feel" the music until you have played the game, at least for once.

My favourite video game soundtrack is the one that accompanies the Playstation 2 version of Dead or Alive 2. Mainly two themes spring to mind: -Hitohira (Kasumi's theme) -Excelsior (the sparring theme that was added to the Hardcore version) Right now I'm quite fond of the Rumble Roses soundtrack. It's surprisingly varied, and Konami even managed to get Yamaoka Akira of Silent Hill fame to contribute two songs, as well as Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance creator Yamane Michiru. I'll upload some tracks later on.

I agree with the rest of the FF series music but 7 just had that extra something. It just seemed so well written. Proof that you don't need a full orchestra to create a fantastic score. (Take note those who throw money at Skywalker Studios - Mercanaries in particular - The music sent me to sleep!)
Another game composer I have fond memories of also is Yuzo Koshiro, who created some classic music for Sega. The Streets of Rage (Bare Knuckle) and Super Shinobi series (Revenge of Shinobi, Shinobi 3) had some of the best music from the 16-bit era.
I agree with the Rez comment though. Played it on DC a fews years back. Difficult to summarise though as it changed to reflect your skills.

Ah, *remembers Reiko's intro, funky music, and great service* ... *nosebleed* Nice intro indeed. Here's the full and original (i.e. in Japanese) DDR version.

I'll comment on the other stuff people have posted later as I'm too tired to type much, but here's another great track: Moment of soaring -->That is the intro music from the Bushido Blade 2 soundtrack. Truly one of the best intro movies ever! Gotta love the guitar riff and the solo at the end I wish I knew how to rip the actual movie itself from the game disc, if anyone knows what tool to use let me know and I'll share it! Kaz

ok after looking through this dvd I have full of game OST's I just thought I'd share this one too before I go sleep: Decide in the Eyes (F Zero X) -->Perhaps not as cool as the SNES version of this same track, but still damn cool all the same. Used to send a shiver up my spine every time I played the game! Kaz
