According to Famitsu the game will be released in Jap. 2006
Hopefully it takes place fully in the past this time. It looks incredible to me, any thoughts?

There is a whole lot of new with Dawn of Dreams. The game's main character, whose name has yet to be revealed, is blonde an wields two swords, one red and one blue. For this new Onimusha, Capcom has stepped away from the tradition of creating a character based off of real life actors. Apparently, using an actor's likeness brought with it limitations on what could be done with the Onimusha series outside of games due to contract conflicts, thus prompting the change to an original creation.

Capcom is also changing some of the series' mechanics with Dawn of Dreams. The game's camera is now controllable by the player, with default positioning behind the player's back. Apparently, this is meant to place you closer to the action. Player camera control will be an essential part of the gameplay.

Action will be the main point of Dawn of Dreams, more so than it was in the previous trilogy. Details have yet to be revealed on how the game will play, or if it will feel the same as previous titles as far as the general feel of fighting is concerned. It's known that you'll be able to absorb souls as you did in previous titles. It also seems that the main character will be able to switch off attacks between his two blades. Finally, there's some talk of multiple playable characters outside the main character, something that wouldn't stray too far from series tradition.

Overall, Capcom seems to be focusing more on gameplay and less on storytelling, with the game's designers wanting to give players a feeling of freedom as they play by allowing them to do what they wish. The game will be less about solving tasks and following a fixed storyline as it will be about players playing as they see fit. There will still be a lot of story, though -- much more than what was seen in Onimusha 3.

With development at only 20%, it seems that we'll have to wait until the cherry blossoms bloom once more (around this time next year) before owning Shin Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams for ourselves, E3 is just around the corner, though, and Capcom is expected to show off the game in some form there.
