The 10th year anniversary party is here... And Heihachi Mishima is dead. Basically, the story begins with an army of Jacks interrupting a battle in a dojo between Kazuya and Heihachi. The Jack's initiated a self-destruct sequence and destroyed the dojo with Heihachi inside. Kazuya escaped, but a man named "Raven" reported Heihachi to be dead.
Tekken 5 features a new graphics engine (System 258); as well as vibrant new arenas, moves, and characters (over 30 characters!). Tekken 5's main new feature is the customizable "card" system. The card system is basically a character customization system (formerly only found in Japan arcades with VF4) that allows players to use a data card to customize their character's color scheme and outfit. Your card will also save information such as how many wins & losses you have, your alias, and your rank. But it hasnt been confirmed what will happen to the PS2 version..
Well I think most of you thought Heiachi was dead. That wasnt the case in this game (sorry for the spoiler, I couldnt help it, plus im sure you lot knew Heiachi wasnt dead anyway) You now have 5 of the Mishima family in it. (Kazuya, Heaichi, Jinpachi, Jin and Asuka). The 'AI' (The computer's intellegence) has increased dramatically. People even call it 'Great AI'. Well put it this way, if you have been playing the Tekken series most of your life, and can pull off the Ten hit combos and all the techniques, you shouldnt have a problem. Everything that was in Tekken 4 has been either taken out or reworked on. Not mention there is a whooping 33 characters in the game, so its time for you to get practicing. As you may or may not know, theres 3 new characters added to the Tekken roster
Raven :Undoubtably like the popular blade character. He plays like a ninja character. HE uses Ninja techniques that make him both swift and powerful. very balenced character
Asuka : Plays alot like Jun. Stepping up in Jun's footsteps she fuses Jun's old style with hers, she is very combo ish if you know how to use Jun's old moves. Shes swift, and has easy juggler combos.
Feng Wei : Killed his master with his bear hands after scolded by him for fighting outside the dojo. He is slow but powerful. Moves remind me of Akira and that shaolin guy from VF4 evo..
Anna, Lee, Wang, Bruce, Baek, Roger, Ganryu, Mokujin all make it back in Tekken 5 with a few more tricks and tales up their sleeve. Wang still doesnt have drunken fist like I wanted him to have in the previous games. Maybe in the next Tekken, it will happen.
Personally, I thought Ogre killed Lee, Wang, Bruce, Baek and ganryu and then absorbed there ablities same with Jun. (Ogre picked up Juns head in the begginning FMV sequence of Tekken 3 so how the hell can she still be alive in Devil Within mode?)
Jinpachi, The main boss has risen from the burned down Honmaru dojo after it got burned down. under the rubble was Jinpachi who was prisoned by Heiachi. Im not going into detail as it will spoil the sturdy plot of the twist in the game. Jinpachi is indeed related to Heiachi but im not saying how.
Customization
Ever wanted to make the characters of tekken look different? Wanted to give Kazuya 3 eyes, Give Hwoarang a Korean gangster look, Give Nina a more gangster look, Give Law a more bruce lee look or a old western yankee look, Give Lei a more Jacky Chan look or Give Paul his hair down look in Tekken 4? Well its all possible in Tekken 5. The customize option is there to broaden your skills. You create a ring name and go to arcade mode, win money then use the money to buy accesories for your characters such as clothes, wigs, jewellery etc. Not only is that the amazing factor of customization, but you can also get promoted to ranks.
Backgrounds are sharper and more vibrant than ever before seen in a Tekken game. Smashing opponents through objects or walls seem the same from Tekken 4, not much improvement from there. But scenery wise, theres alot more thoughtful backgrounds and more devoloped FMV sequences. Theres about 3 different intros for Tekken 5. (the teaser trailer, The arcade beginning and the PS2 only beginning intro) They all look stunningly beautiful. But the music for the PS2 only trailer doesnt seem to match the events of whats going on in the trailer. But other than that, the in game background music is decent, better than the crap they threw in Tekken 4. Graphic details on each character is astonishing. Not a detail out of line. Everything is smooth (and if your watching Nina or Anna's behind, you can understand what im saying, lol) So the graphics is definatly a plus side to this game in my opinon.
Devil within mode
Anyone ever played Tobal no.1 or no2 before? If so, Devil within mode plays much like Tobals Quest mode. The first stage treats you to a remix of Jin's Tekken 3 background music. The bosses gauge seems sooo much like Devil May cry 3.
Anyhow, Devil Within is a mode that only Jin is playable in. He is trying to find a way to get rid of his devil gene is his blood.
Its the replacement of Tekken Force and believe me, once youve played this, you wont really give a damn about Tekken Force again. The moves and controls are different. Jin can turn into a devil just like dante can in DMC series. Jin gets full glimpse of 3D aspects as he roams into the 3D, jumping, climbing, running around freely.
So in simple terms, Devil Within mode is just like Devil May cry but without finding objects, you just beat the living hell out of people and look on the map to the nearest door.
Arcade Conversions
Tekken 1, Tekken 2, and the awesome Tekken 3 make there arcade conversion presence felt in Tekken 5. If anyone told you Tekken Tag or Tekken 4 was on the Tekken 5 game, they made a complete mockery out of you. All the characters from Tekken 2 and Tekken 3 are unlocked. The loading time kills the loading time on the PS1 to load the tekken games. I noticed that Tekken 1 didnt have no characters unlocked and up till now, I still dont know how to unlock them. But who gives a damn? Your getting 3 other games other than the one you was getting. 4 games for the price of one. And they are all Tekken. What more could you ask for?
With all classical arcade conversions of Tekken 1 to 3 on this one disc, you will never get bored which leaves you not only playing a New Tekken, but the old ones aswell. how cool is that? and then when thinking about playing Tekken 5, you have 33 Characters to master, Plus you can unlock and buy stuff in the game. So tell your mum or your partner to pack you lunch, cause you wont be moving out of your seat playing this fantastic Beat em up. Definatly, One of the finest Beat em up games created sooo far!
Graphics 10/10 So Sharp and so thoughtful.
Sound 8/10 Not bad at all
Gameplay 10/10 they dont call it the best beat em up for nothing
Lastablity 10/10 With this Tekken and the older Tekkens, It will last you a long time
Overall Rating 10/10 - Best 3D Beat em up game
