- Eiji Aonuma from Nintendo, said that the development of Legend of Zelda for GameCube is already completed, the game is scheduled for a year end release in Japan.

I actually kinda expected it to be about that long. Anyways, after experiencing Windwaker i'm just relieved Nintendo decided to actually do some work for a Zelda game.

I think this move is more marketing than anything else.
Primarilly keep the Gamecube in the console scene a little longer if possible ,bye the time it releases gamers will be looking forward to new consoles.
They know the big "N" fans will wait. Watch.. there will be huge publicity campain for the next Zelda to hype the sales up.

I agree with Candycab nintendo always did that for marketing.here it comes but u have to wait.
