I guess this question is for the unfortunates living in countries with PAL tv standard Has anyone here have a pal PS2 modded to play ntsc games....... If so when you play a ntsc game, is it full screen full speed ntsc or just 3/4 screen slow style ? similar to an old amiga Any help would go down well

You don't need to mod it to display NTSC as it is already capable of playing stuff in 60hz... all you need is to get the machine modded so that it will play your imports/backups. Once you are done, any NTSC games will play full screen/full speed, but you will need to make sure you have a TV that can display NTSC, or one that has an RGB scart input, and an RGB scart lead for your PS2. If you need any more advice lemme know Kaz

Cool, MGS3 is a pretty great game so I'm sure you'll enjoy it ;D. Is your PS2 modded to play imports though?
If you do get a black and white picture, try getting a PS2 RGB scart lead, as that should fix your problem provided your TV has an RGB scart input... but these days practically all TV's do. Only one downside to using an RGB scart lead is that you may end up with a green tinted pic if you watch DVD movies on it - I'm not sure if PS2's are still like that, but I remember the earlier PS2's like mine ended up with a green pic due to some stupid stuff that Sony did. There are ways of getting around that though...

Hey Kaz,
Yeh my PS2 is modded with a matrix infinity mod chip so it does the works and the jerks... well its ment to!
TV's in Aus are a strange one, they are PAL50 but my WEGA has the option for NTSC3.57 and NTSC4.43.
My AES modded by J.Kurtz is now fully NTSC with 60hz and I just select NTSC3.57 on the TV. I think although I'm not sure the NTSC4.43 setting would be a 60hz signal but in PAL standard hence the 4.43. ?
I'm a QS not a electrical engineer, so I could be speaking absolute bull. ahahah
My PS2 at the moment is connected via sony component cables and our TV's don't have scart at my price range.
Is your MGS3 running through your modded pal ps2 or a factory nstc machine ?
Cheers

Heh, yeah, PS2s STILL have the green tint. I'm getting DVD Region X to remedy that tho. Correction, I had a DVD Region X, but them mem card that came with it was faulty, so I've sent it back and am waiting impatiently for the replacement. I wanna watch my copy of Old Boy NOOOOOOOOOW!

Hey Kaz, Yeh my PS2 is modded with a matrix infinity mod chip so it does the works and the jerks... well its ment to! Cool... No idea to tell you the truth. There is such a thing as PAL 60 though, a lot of Euro games now thankfully have PAL 60 options which is nice If your TV supports NTSC then you'll probably be ok anyway. I know on my Sony Trinitron I an use any cables, even the standard composite ones and I still get a colour picture, whereas the same cables give a black and white pic on a friends TV (but it's colour if we use RGB scart). Modded PAL machine, with an oooold Messiah mod. Yeton: lol, I have had that prob with the memory card thing in Region X going kaput, I had to get mine replaced a while back, I guess it's common. I have a newer copy of it that I got free with a magazine a while back though, and that doesn't need it, it just makes a save on your standard memory card. There is another way around the green screen issue though (at least on my version of the PS2)... you can solder a single wire between 2 points on the board and it stops the green tint from happening. Probably not worth it though, I only did it because Region X wasn't around when I bought mine Kaz

The swap magic discs allow you to switch your console between ntsc and pal modes and avoid that green screen problem as well.

Just as a follow up,
I got MGS3 today in NTSC format and it plays full screen in colour etc. Everything seems cool! I'm also stoked I can play as a snake character and voice over as apposed to raiden from MGS2
Cheers
