Yep, I had an MD too! My favourites were SOR1 & 2, SF2:SCE, Thunderforce 3 & 4, Dr Robotnik's Meanbean Machine, Road Rash 2 and Gunstar Heroes. I still own all my MD games, but I'm considering selling them ... particularly Probotector, Gunstar Heroes and Truxton, as they fetch a handsome amount on EBay. I'll be sad to see them go, but, well, I'll always have "teh roms." Buddakun: I bought Soleil when it first came out. An excellent Zelda wannabe, tho I remember it was a bit easy. I'll have to dig it out and have another rumble on it again sometime soon! A confession to make: I always wanted a SNES. I was considering getting rid of my MD until SF2 was announced for the MD (I was, and still am that much of an SF2 freak).

Playground arguments? ;D Snes fanboy: the Snes has a bigger colour palette than the Mega Drive so the games look more colourful and vivid Mega Drive fanboy: pft, the Mega Drive has a much faster processor. You can't touch Sonic Snes fanboy: Sonic sucks dude. I'll have Mario any day Mega Drive fanboy: damn fat plumber Snes fanboy: bluegrape crummy-eyed hedgehog with gay fox running behind him Mega Drive fanboy: the Mega Drive has more sound channels Snes fanboy: yes, a shame the sound they produce sucks. We've got mode 7! Mega Drive fanboy: we beat mode 7 with the svp chip in Virtua Racing! Snes fanboy: Virtua Racing on Mega Drive has crappy colours, man*argument starts all over again* Funnily enough that is EXACTLY how it always went edit: Yeton - my god Road Rash pwned back then ;D Kaz

EA should give us a new version of Road Rash, tho I'm sure in this day and age the game would create a helluva lot of controversy in the media! Other notable MD games I loved: Columns Dynamite Headdy Devil Crash/Dragon's Fury Alisia Dragoon Decap Attack (never finished it, tho it wasn't meant to be too hard as I leant it out to a couple of mates and they finished it within a weekend. I'm oddly crap at platform games, really dunno why) Flicky ( ) Shadow Dancer (one or two people at the time told me it was a brilliant game, but looking at the magazine reviews, they said it was only an average game, so I stayed away. WTF? I'm so ashamed to say, it wasn't until I d/l the rom about six years ago that I played, and appreciated this game. What have I been missing all these years? I'll never listen to a review by these morons ever again!) Ah, brings tears to my eyes ...

Cool Spot. That was all just a big marketing ploy for the soda but I had fun playing it.

Hey, what's wrong with Decap Attack?!?!?! Seriously though, there was something about these rather flawed MD games, the ones that had dodgy soundtracks, garish colour schemes and flawed gameplay, that made them sort of endearing. Or am I just mad?

The MD was released around 1988 in Japan, I think, and at the end of 1990 in the UK. Dunno about the rest of the world ... I got the rom for the Jap version of Decap Attack the other day, Magical Flying Turbohat Adventure (I think?), and it's an almost unrecognisable game! Worse still, it's far harder than the western release, so I've got no chance of finishing this game!

Sold for a very short time. I happened to win a megadrive at a local contest but I already had one so I traded for a nomad which I still have. If you have an ac adaptor you can simply plug it into a wall and you won't have a power issue and you can also play on a big screen if you have a av cable.

I bought my Genesis about the 2nd week they were out. I remember spending upwards of $600.00 at Toys R Us that day ,mine was the origional Altered Beast pack in with headphone port and volume on the front. That was and still is one of the best consoles ever created to date, while my origional puked out a few years back and is no more ,I do have a 3rd generation model here as well as the 32Y lol ;D and the SMS convertor If you like platformers and never tried it , you need to get a copy of " Mickey Mouse & The Castle of Illusions " Probably the best platformer of that age { yeah it kiced Marios ass all over the street too } there was nothing with the level of graphics of that game and the game play was/is excelent. There were soo many great games on the Genesis ,espicially the flying shooters like the Thunder Force series and the 1st EA Golf game { PGA Tour }was top notch and I think only rivaled bye Neo Turfmasters in its pick up ,play and have instant fun. Streets of Rage is still about the best brawler for my money ....excelent system with some truely great games that are suprisingly still just as much fun today as they were back then which makes for a keeper in my book

I still got my copy of Castle of Illusion somewhere. Those last couple of boss fights against the giant and witch were annoying as hell.

I agree that Streets of Rage is the best scrolling beat em up ever. Final Fight would perhaps be second, and SOR2 a close third in my book. I just preferred the style, music and variety of the levels of SOR1 over 2. SOR3 tried to combine what was missing from the 2nd, but I didn't like it much at all. It should have been great but just seemed like a dull rehash with overly elaborate special moves to me. I just love the music in SOR1 too! Awesome stuff.
Another game that was superior to its sequels was Sonic 1. Sonic 2 just seemed like an even easier rehash with less ideas and levels that didn't flow as well, and 3 was dull to me. Like SOR1, Sonic 1 had a feel to it (gameplaywise, graphically and sonically [no pun intended]) that the sequels couldn't better. Hearing Green Hill Zone's theme-tune always brings a nostalgic tear to my eyes.
And may I just say, I too bought the Altered Beast Megadrive pack. Ah, those garish colours and poorly sampled speech. "WIIIIISE FWOM YOUW GWWWAAAAAVE!" whimpers Elmer Fudd/Zeus. Yeah I love that game. Like an Ed Wood movie, it's so bad it's good!
And did anyone else think Revenge of Shinobi was really overrated?
