Official Doom 3 Thread

Don't know how many of you are playing Doom 3 or plan to play it, but here's the official forum thread for discussion about it. Share tips if you want and talk about what you think of the game. So far from what I have played I have REALLY enjoyed it, although I do have to run it at a lower gfx setting due to my ghetto gfx card

One tip I have for ya - read ALL the PDA things you pick up, and take note of any code or website address you find in them. The codes will get you into lockers that contain weapons etc, and sometimes to find codes you might need to check the various website URL's you find. Example:

Only prob I have with the game so far is that it can be quite dark - you have a flashlight, but it can't be used at the same time as a weapon meaning in very dark areas you have to be extremely careful, and even the low grade zombies that attack you with melee weapons can be deadly if they corner you. It takes some getting used to, but I'm sort of getting the hang of it now and I've progressed quite far in the game. Turning up the gamma setting in game might help a little too.

Btw... play it with the lights out and a pair of headphones on, it's extremely atmospheric!!!

Wow,mindbending...i was going to make a HALO 2 sticky since i saw some droolness pics and a rumor that it´s going to be released August the 24th.

Anyways, i am really looking forward to playing Doom3.
Since i am not online a lot anymore and not up to date on facts....anyone know if and when it will come out for the X-Box?
I don´t wanna beef up my pc just for a game,but then again, i think it´s already up to date so far to play doom3, i think.
Kaz,you play it on full speed and full grafics and stuff?

So what kinda game is it? In the action style of HALO?Or more of a silend around the corner type like resident evil style-ish?

Yes Xbox release in a few months or something apparently. I am running a 2ghz AMD with 512mb ram which is pretty much enough for the game, but my problem is the extremely shitty gfx card I have... a 64mb Gforce 4 MX. It sucks ass, but thankfully it does run the game at a reasonable speed if I play it at 800x600 and with low detail switched on. Surprisingly the game still looks fairly nice, but hopefully soon I'll get a way better card.

Got the game. Ladies and gentlemen, I'm sorry to say that.............it sucks.

The gameplay isn't that good while it's been in production for like 4/5+ years. Only thing I like, is the atmosphere. I think i'm gonna play it tonight with all the lights down. Maybe then i'll enjoy it a little more.

The graphics are mindblowing (doh) but the gameplay...just because it has the name "Doom" says it's a good game. Well, sorry, it just doesn't live up to the name. It kinda reminds me of Far Cry, but 10x worse. Oh, and like Far Cry, the multi player blows. Lots of close combat. Move along folks.

Though i already know i won't like it as much as far cry(it's like cs the game but actually done right, condition zero... ;D) just cause i dig the modern military style combat, Doom 3 is very good so far imo.

One thing that d3 does so perfectly is that kind atmosphere that even if it doesn't creep you out (it's definately creepier then i imagined) if your into horror/survival you'll be in heaven. Though the single player may not have as good a body hit detection as far cry it gives that old school perfect strafing=ownage type of gameplay that's about taking your time more which is nice when done well. Anyways, i already think it's the best game i've ever played in it's genre. (survival/horror)

Though the multiplayer may not be too skillful just from running around the maps by myself i'm thinking it will be fun as hell. Imagine when Quake 4 comes out on the same engine...

heh yeah people tend to like the brightness of farcry and game play better. I like the atmosphere of d3 i still need to try that flashlight mod where they duct tape it to your gun haha, but over all i think its a pretty good game. i think i need to upgrade my processor i think my 9600pro wull push it just not the 2.6gig celeron i have...so many upgrades to do heh

Same here I've actually been playing thru it kinda slowly, i just recently got the first plasma gun.

I haven't played it in a few days cos of being busy (for a change) at work and then Winning 11 8 came out and I kinda got addicted to that as I usually do whenever a new WE comes out. Gonna carry on with it tonight and I'm not back at work till Thursday, so I'll have plenty of time ;D

Just got the game, its great
The game runs smoothly at medium setting with 800x600 res and it looks really good (it suprised me, i thought the game would look like crap on my computer)
Freaky atmosphere, i love the computers you can access during the game
I'm loving it so far

I gotta admit there were times in the game which made me jump.

I recommend that when you play this game, turn out the lights and put on your headphones, you will certainly freak out, I sure did
