I'm always thinking about buying a neo geo home sytem or one of those superguns(?) things to play MVS carts at home. so I want to ask you guys who really know. 1.) Is it really different than the ports? 'Cuz I have most of these for the DC. 2.) How much life do you think the Neo-Geo still has in it? I would hope at least five more years (it doesn't seem pragmatic for SNK/Playmore to switch hardware) 3.) How much different is it than emulators? I don't use emulators, really (like once in full moon maybe I'm just traditional but it deosn't "feel"). I'm mostly morally against them and the damnage they do to the industry. 4.) Is it worth it? I've been a gamer for a long time and although I'm slowing down with my hobby a good deal now(less time) I could see myself being a neo-geo-er. I've always admired the game and system from afar as little kid ( the kof seemed like a super stylin super cool street fighter too me and hardcore and "undergound") Also, now I have access to more money but I still ain't rich. 5.) I love 2-D fighters and sprite based games (I'm old-school), how much does it cost to get into the scene NOW.
P.S. I've already read what Kazuya has written in the site but I want current info. Also, thanks to anyone who ACTUALLY answers. ;D

Hello Ronin, welcome to the forums.
Now what you are about to hear is my personal opinion, so please be aware that there are alot of other people who don't agree with me and that have valid reasons for doing so.
Here goes.
Only spend the money if you really want it. It sounds simple enough, but this is a relatively large financial commitment. Until February of this year I owned a japanese AES system with only 5 games, kof 98-2k2. I literally spent my life savings on those games.
You need to realize that once you start this hobby it becomes a rabid addiction rivalling many modern narcotics. I now play using MVS, and I'm spending even more money than before simply because I want a larger collection. This is a hobby for those that grew up in the arcade scene. Is it worth it financially? Hell no...
...but I can't descrbe to you how cool it is to realize you actually own one. My advice, if you have the money, go MVS, if not then don't worry about the neo geo.

Yeah, I think I would only buy the KOF/SS/LB/Garou games myself and maybe Metal Slug 3 (just the big name ones). IF I got one. I glad you replied SNK Boricua (Yeah. go PR. I'm Puerto Rican, too ). Can anyone give me some numbers on like costs? In addition to their thoughts on the questions posted above.

I was in your shoes about a year or more ago. I used to have the Neo Geo home system and Neo CD system: I used to play the crap out of them until one stupid day I made the decision to sell them. Then I started missing my old AES games at one point I believe I had like 13 games. I used to run on pay day to the local game dealer and see if he had anything new or used that I wanted. I would spend like $200 or more on these games, granted I was single at the time. After selling them I started regretting it as I can't hang with 3D fighters and I love fighting games and 99% of the time that is all I play and I have every system from the Atari 2600 to the X-Box, but still I was not happy I needed my Neo back. I started looking around and somehow found Kazuya's site and was left jaw dropped, I could believe his review, pics and everything up on there. A great source of Neo knowledge and that's where I found out about Supegun's and MVS. So I found this guy overseas who made me a Supergun and I picked up a MVS-1C motherboard and a crap load of games from mdgamesales@aol.com and I have been MVS'ing it since. MVS games are much more when they are first released but if your willing to wait they drop in price big time. I also have a Neo emulation setup downstairs in my basement but still i'd go with the MVS any day as there is nothing like knowing you are playing a true arcade setup. Below are pics of my MVS room: For more pics go here: www.mysteriozone.com/NeoGeoSuperGun.htmP.S. sorry if there are any type-o's as this was written quickly and I didn't have time to review it over.

nice nice, pardon me for asking but about how much did it cost...and was it already premade with ntsc in mind or did you have to get a convertor yourself? Sorry for all the questions man, but you're the first guy in the US I know with a supergun.

Another good guy to ask at the neo-geo.com forums would be JHendrix, as he is also in the US and he built his own supergun (a pretty cool one too). Also, Kernow (who is in the UK) makes some nice and simple superguns, he has a site that sells them in fact: www.uberia.co.uk/Kaz

thanks kaz, I'm trying to find a four slot or six slot pcb to get a supergun going. I like Kernow's though, as it seem ideal for playing SvC on PCB...but I'll definately ask J_Hendrix once I get my board.

Sorry for all the questions man, but you're the first guy in the US I know with a supergun. Sorry for the late response I just saw this now. I paid $300 for the Supergun & a XRGB+2 which I though was good.
