Yeah the stage intros were great, I wish they'd bring those back. The ones in KOF '96 were pretty damn good too. About the closest we have recently is the small introduction for Rugal's stage in KOF 2002.
Umgogo: I agree with a lot of what you said, but I think a few people would have a thing or two to say about KOF '96 and '99 not having good stages. Some people actually claim KOF '96 to have the best ones in any of the series (I'm not one of them, although I dod like them a lot), and KOF '99 has the best in the series in my himble opinion.
You are dead right about KOF 2001 though. The bad backgrounds and music spoil the atmosphere of an otherwise decent game.

The shopping district in 2000 was probably the best background in that game I think. Welcome to the forum btw Kaz

KoF97 has actually got no good Backgrounds, except for those Orochi-Related!!(i.e. Riot of Blood Stage)

I would like to see more moving stages with scrolling backgrounds in the future KOF games. One good example of a moving stage is Terry Bogard's stage in Fatal Fury 2, where the fight takes place on a train that passes by Mount Rushmore while running through a desert.
The sewer stage in KOF '99 and the Italy stage in KOF 2002 are the only moving stages in the entire series (as far as I can remember), so I think that KOF 2003 & 2004 really should have a few of them instead of ordinary "static" stages.

Terry's stage in motw), if cart spaces allow. btw there are more scrolling stages in the kof series than the ones you mention (ie. kof 96 boss stage, kof 98 china stage, etc.)

That stage is pretty similar to Mai Shiranui's stage in FF2 (a boat going down a river). I haven't seen Goenitz's stage yet... It seems that I really should play the older KOFs more.

Chizuru stage of 96 is great. I laughed my ass off first time i saw all the bigheaded peeps walking around in the background. Plus the background tune from Chizuru is one of the coolest i've heard on KOF. Seiryu

Chizuru's stage is cool, and Goenitz stage is even cooler, but I really like the boss team stage... 3 different pieces of background music which are all incredibly cool (especially the Geese theme!) and a cool moving stage. Probably one of my favourite boss encounters of any game Kaz

I like Geese´s Theme in 96!! I always hoped, this Fight would never End. But I don´t understand why Geese was always your first Enemy of the three Bosses. Is he seen as the weakest?? But I do understand why Krauser is the last one.....strong Dude, man!!
