I didn't get video games until I could afford them myself. No amount of begging would help.

Hehe, I have to admit something similar happened to me. Mid eighties and my parents didn't want to buy me a NES because they thought it would interfere with my social life. The really funny part was that most of the kids in my street had a NES and if you didn't own a console you weren't part of the club. In a stroke of genius they bought me a GameBoy. It was supposed to be a compromise. You know, like a political compromise, where an initially good idea gets totally maimed. If there was one anti-social device in those days it was the GameBoy.  Luckily for me by the time the Mega Drive/Genesis was released I could afford it myself.
