Maybe I should rename this in the classic shmups topic? It would be my pleasure... ;D I get the "shooter renaissance" feeling, B.Kai. They really are great for a quick blast as well as for some deep exploration in order to maximise the score. Due to lack of time, I mostly have to go for the first. Not that that's a bad thing Is it just me, or is the shooter genre reviving?

That would be great flan_man! Rename away! I don't know, shooters were my first video game love, before fighters or any of the others-- Phoenix was what, 1983? I think you hit the nail one the head about being able to just pick them up quickly or get a little deeper into them, depending on time. Racing games are similar in that way, just not as much. They do have a similar adrenaline rush though! As for reviving the genre, I've been giving that some thought lately, and despite everybody's gushing (in reviews, not on this board) that 2D shooters are a dying genre, I really don't think they ever went away, and I don't think they're in any danger of it either. Oh well, rant done. Too bad work isn't! --B. Kai

I see Buddha made a more general thread about shmups so we might as well take the discussion there.
