1st-mslug1 I loved the first most of all cause it had a great old school war time atmosphere, i also liked the idea of keeping it somewhat realistic not shooting zombies, giant creatures, and aliens. Short compared to the others but sweet and fun to master.
2nd-mslug3 this game had the most variety with underwater, space levels, jetpack (who doesnt love causing distruction while in a jet pack honestly ;D) and was lengthly and very challenging.
3rd-mslugX cool game with the introduction of a few new vehicles and my least favorite mslug feature zombies. (at was at least sort of cool in 3) Its still a game that i enjoyed and could play often though.
4th-mslug4 I started out in this one playing thru the 1st level thinking "why is everybody putting this one down, double oozies how cool can it get" but then as i got deeper in the game i started to notice the lack of quality of the level layouts, for instance the level with zombies droping down on me with cheezy and seemingly slapped together backrounds, very uncool new vehicles like the small one with legs that you go around in utterly slow and better off just leaving it to rott. I remember just walking away from it after playing the first few levels, somewhat entertaing but very poor in my opinion of a game thats supposed to be an update an excellent game

ST1 was better than ST2 because there was lots of action.bick riding etc.ST2 hadd polished graphics.MSlug war atomsphere was great and mslug3 multiple-path was the best mslug feature so far.

multiple-path was the best mslug feature so far. Very true, hopefully mslug 5 will include some of that, along with stylish new vehicles, weapons, and for christ sake stop fighting the same damn army with the green troopers and dictator guy, how many times will i have to see those same damn sprites, playmore needs to start out fresh

I take it I'm the only one here who doesn't rate any of the Metal Slug games.

I don't see how I'm missing out: it's not like I've never played them.

I don't dislike them, they're perfectly nice games. I just fail to understand the awe some hold them in; I find the games diverting fun for ten minutes or so before the puddle deep gameplay and chronically repetitive starts to lose it's lustre. The games are - after all - quintessentially of the arcade: simple and instantly gratifying. I just find them a little too "vanilla".

I agree with you in a way Gouki (they definitely shallow arcade games), but I think it is the brilliance of the animation and artwork that really sets the game apart from anything else. I also find them very addictive and I love going back and trying to improve my skills so that I can get through the game in the least number of continues... but I can see why not everybody would enjoy that.
At the end of the day though, almost all the games on the Neo Geo are arcade titles with little depth. It just depends on your perspective. Some people find it enjoyable to practice their combos in a fighting game for instance, while some people only care about completing a game once with each character before they say they have "finished" with it.

I love going back and trying to improve my skills so that I can get through the game in the least number of continues... I do that all the time, mslug 3 is a tough one so i cant totally desicrate it but ive got got mslug1 down to like 2 extra credits, i can get all the way thru the first 3 levels withought dieing once, though sometimes that bald turd that throws those nades really fast will get a lucky kill on me

The "see you in hell guy"? Just stay under him or right above him and he can't hit you. Also, for the bosses in MS1 just make sure you are in the tank and keep pressing down + C to throw a ton of grenades... you can finish almost all the bosses in about 5-10 seconds with that tactic... for instance, the big tank on the ice level dies before it even has a chance to get the whole way onto the screen Don't use the cannon on the tank unless you have to - it might do more damage, but you can throw grenades much more quickly, so you still end up doing a lot more damage overall. Using that tactic helped me beat the game on one credit. Kaz

Well, that was the general idea in playing through it each time, but I never managed it.
