Indeed. It's a tough time for arcades

Yeah, it's been like this for a while though At least the US arcade scene is a tiny bit better than the UK one... which sucks balls completely. Kaz

That´s really sad to read. Hopefully it changes, someday. Hopefully it will be like in Japan or in China, but this is just dreaming, as the People in the West are so ignorant!!

Times change. The article mentions that most arcade games have become too complex which is something that I agree with (without saying that this is a bad thing). If you're not a total expert, there's no way you're just going to pop into the local arcade without getting your ass kicked. So yes, arcades are getting more out of the hardcore gamers but that doesn't constitute for the loss of the broader group of casual gamers.
I also liked hanging out in the arcades to get the competition going on, but now that so many things are online... why would I make things hard on myself?
Depressing? It's just a matter of taking profit from the new opportunities that present themselves.

Going to arcades in the uk is just plain dangerous.
From the second you go to one your already being eyed up by some 15 *usually where I live* asian (in this case pakistanis) gang mambers and when you go to a machine the nice comforting sound of switchblades being focused on your direction.
I will admit it isn't as bad as it used to be but there is still enough to stop me leaving the house ever.

They still have a virtua cop machine.
