Try Daraku tenchi....The fallen angel from Psikyo. It´s a 2-D brawler with awesome animation and very well made characters. Hand to hand battles with almost no firebals. From what i´ve heared the designers that made the design on fallen angels in 1998,later on moved to work for SNK on KOF,thus the same design on K Dash and others,it shows a bit in the main characters as one looks like `K Dash, one as Maxima and one looks a lot like Yashiro. Truelly a title that must be played by every beat em up fan. Screenshot galore: www.vgmuseum.com/images/arcade3/04/25.htmlExcellent game there! too bad it was quite unknown, but thatnks to mame, i got to knowabout it! ;D i use the guy which is slouching and does drunken kungfu moves, the semi bald guy, he rocks

Hey, I know Daraku Tenchi! I had forgotten about it completely though. I was always partial to the big frankensteiny guy. I'll have to start playing it again once I'm done with Asura Blade.
Psikyo makes some really amazing games-- shooters especially. They were always very Dreamcast-friendly too, which is a plus in my book.

Drool, slobber...
I have been wanting to play Asura Blade since september '98, when I saw an article for it in Sega Saturn Magazine. The character design and graphics style appeal to me, particularly Leon, Goat, Rosemary and Alice. (For once, a 2D game which seems to take inspiration from Western mythology/popular culture, rather than Asian. As much as I love 'Shodown, Last Blade, Kabuki Klash and the rest, there is something to be said for variety.) I must get someone to teach me how to install and use MAME...
For now, though, I would be oh, so grateful if anyone who has played either 'Blade or 'Buster would post some special/Super move descriptions. It seems that the Super move command in 'Buster is indeed qcfx2/qcbx2+button (which I prefer), so it may be that 'Blade is more in the vein of the VS series. Character overviews are also welcome.
Thanks in advance!

Boy, and it even inspired me to post again Kaz: Nope, as far as I know no sound yet. umgogo: I started putting together an faq back when I first posted this, but like most things I never finished it. I'll clean it up and post it. Unfortunately I don't have a site to post screenshots, otherwise I'd put some out there. I think of it as a weird Last Blade/Darkstalkers combination. I won't lie though, the gameplay is pretty simple. So, if it was in Sega Saturn magazine, does that mean there was a Saturn version? I did not know that!

So, if it was in Sega Saturn magazine, does that mean there was a Saturn version? I did not know that! One thing is sure: I couldn't find it on the list of Jap Saturn games at gamefaqs.

Asura blade for the Saturn? Nope, not that i know of. Must have been just an arcade add for the game.
One of the most awesome drawn fighters on the Saturn must be Astra Superstars. Look it up, that game is sweet as hell.

I own Astra Superstars, and while it is indeed original and has plenty of eye candy, it is IMO very hard to get to grips with properly. The gameplay can be described as chaotic at the best of times.
Um, perhaps I should have mentioned that the SSM Asura Blade feature pertained to the arcade version. Heh, *if* there had been a Saturn conversion, do you honestly think I would not have tracked it down by now? ^_^ Why, I even bought Sonic Council (and, fortunately, was able to trade it with a friend for Power Instinct 2)...
I am looking forward to the AS FAQ!

Sonic Council is a sub-par anime-style Saturn fighting game which was (incredibly) released as late as 1998. The graphics are first-generation SNES quality, the character design uninspired and the gameplay is basic and repetitive. Though the controls are more responsive than Angel Eyes' and more intuitive than Astra Superstars, there is next to nothing to hold one's attention for more than ten minutes. I even wrote a review for the game last September, headlined "It biteth like a serpent." I might post it here if I get around to it. Having recently bought Groove On Fight, I was hoping for another obscure gem, but a letdown it was. (The same held true when I later purchased Asuka 120% Burning Fest Final and Angel Eyes after experiencing Advanced Variable Geo 2. Optimism is not always well-founded.)

I know the feeling... I remember before I played it, someone had a joke at my expense and told me "Legend of Success Joe is a good game"... I still have nightmares about the first time I played it, even now, and often wake up in a cold sweat Would like to read the review, feel free to post it up here sometime Kaz
